King Of The Surf Guitar: The Best Of Dick Dale & His Del-Tones $5.55 This collection rightly concentrates on Dale’s instrumental exploits as the Jimi Hendrix of surf music. Nineteen sixty-one’s “Let’s Go Trippin’” was the first real surf instrumental, although the pyrotechnic fretwork of later Dale records is largely absent. Those divebomb runs, reverb drenchings, and impossibly quick picking displays materialize on the next single, “Shake & Stomp,” then bloom on t… |

Watch Pro Surfers On The Big Winter Waves Of Oahu Surf
The North Shore of the island of Oahu is where you can see the huge, rolling winter waves in all their might which have made this locale the playground to some of the best surfers in the world. Oahu surf vacations are very popular with all kinds surfers. The fine beaches of the North Shore stretch for more than seven miles and play host to some of the world’s major surfing competitions including the huge Vans Triple Crown of Surfing.
Stop here between the months of November and February and there are some serious surfers catching some massive waves, which are a joy to watch, and great fun for Oahu surf fans. Winter storms off Alaska create giant breakers, with waves that can reach fifteen to twenty feet in some places. Watching surfers “shooting the tube” at Banzai Pipeline which is next to Ehukai Beach Park is very remarkable. A popular year round haunt for surfers and tourists is the town of Hale’iwa which is well worth stopping at to visit the surf stores and take pleasure in the laid back scene.
There are many good Oahu surf spots on both the north and south shores of the island. To the north there is Chuns, Haleiwa Ali’i Beach Park, Leftovers, Rightovers and Alligator Rock. Chuns is well known as a longboarding spot. Haleiwa Ali’i Beach Park offers the extremes of Oahu surf; on quiet days it is perfect for beginners; on wilder days it has some of the most exhilarating surf in the region. Leftovers, Rightovers and Alligator Rock offer huge breaking waves just ideal for experienced surfers who like their Oahu surf experience to be dramatic.
The North Shore offers a more peaceful setting in the summer months when the crystal clear waters are perfect for snorkelling and it is a world away from the vibrant scene on the south coast at Waikiki Beach and Honolulu. Waikiki is a collection of beaches where the scene is to sunbathe, swim, sail, snorkel or just people watch. It is here where the majority of Oahu’s hotels are located and there is easy access to Honolulu and the rest of the island so it is a great place to stay for Oahu surf breaks.
There are more Oahu surf spots to the South of the island. Bowls & Kaisers are where the hard-core experts go. Canoes are great for beginners but some of the most crowded surfing in the world. Diamond Head Cliffs is where the Oahu surf natives go. Old Man’s draws a wide variety of those looking for Oahu surf action. These are just a few of the surfing locations available around the island to give you a flavour of the variety that the island’s coastline offers surfers.
Honolulu is a energetic city and a great place to explore and experience some marvellous culinary delights. Culture lovers should visit the ornate Iolani Palace and colourful Chinatown is where you’ll find a good mixture of art galleries, restaurants and shopping canters.
Away from the city, the south coast of Oahu is good to explore, taking in Diamond Head, which offers remarkable views. Meandering along the 26 beaches is a treat, especially Hanauma Bay, which is great for snorkelling. Head to the east coast of the island and there are several historic sugar mills and the Polynesian Cultural Centre, one of Hawaii’s most popular attractions which commemorate the people and culture of Polynesia.

What time does the Billabong Pipeline Masters surf competition start?
It’s my first time watching a surf competition, and I wanna make sure I see all the big names, and killer waves.
You simply can’t beat Kim_Dude’s answer, because he’s got all the info. I would also suggest that you check out the morning surf report on TV. The telephone surf report has whether the competition will go by 7:15 am on it. I don’t know where you’re staying, but if you’re anywhere near the North Shore, that will give you time to go and check it out. We had really beautiful weather for the first part in Haleiwa this year, with some great rides and riders. Did you check out the news on the front page of this morning’s Advertiser about Jaws in Maui? 80 FOOT FACES!!! I digress…anyway, you can always call the surf line starting at 7:15 am each day and they will let you know if the competition is going that day. (529-SURF, if I remember correctly) — 808 area, of course.
Have you ever been watching a surf DVD and you see some pro bust off the lip, land on some awkward angle with his body bent backwards into the white-wash and yet some how he recovers and manages to stay on his board? Don’t you wish you could do that? That sort of recovery requires an insanely high level of core strength and balance. Lucky for us, you can actually train to increase your balance and in turn improve your Surfing.....Click here to read the rest of the article:Real Surf!
