14 Reasons Why You Need A Website

Why You Need A Website …

Even the most negative anti-internet people out there even believe that a huge portion of business revenue is be derived from online transactions, or offline transactions as a result of seeing the product or service online beforehand.

Sometimes I wonder why people even hesitate about creating an online presence, why? nowadays the cost of setting up a website from scratch is extremely, and I mean extremely cheap.

Don’t be quick to dismiss your product or service as one that doesn’t lend itself to the online environment, people all over the world are selling all kinds of goods online, the product doesn’t even have to be tangible, it could be selling an e-book on how to make hats!

I know of many local businesses who don’t put all their efforts into selling over the internet but they do have some kind of online presence, whether it’s a small brochure website which simply contains an inviting homepage, about us and contact page, this type of website is great for small local companies who offer a local service, for example a ‘local car valeting service’.

The point here is to have something on the web so you can be found by potential customers or even partners etc; even if your website simply contains your contact detail with a brief description you can still generate leads and business.

Below are a few more reasons why you need a website

1. Build Customer Relationships

A website is a great place to build customer relationships – this can be done extremely effectively using email. Once you have a consumers name and e-mail address they could be a customer for life if they are treated well.

2. Lead Generation

Let’s face it we all want to make money online, and the sole intention of many online organisations is to make money, and turn visitors into customers into loyal customer who use their products or services again and again.

Creating a website, attracting visitors and funnelling this traffic are a great lead generation technique. A local organisation I worked with on a website visitor conversion campaign found they increased lead generation by 800% by effectively utilizing the powers of creating an effective online presence and marketing their website through a variety of channels.

3. To compete against your competitors

Without having an online presence could mean you are missing out on a lot of potential business – meaning your competitors have a distinct advantage just by having an online presence. Effectively leverage the power of the internet and get ahead of competitors by learning by their mistakes and doing what they do better.

4. To provide business information
A huge proportion of internet users use the internet to find local businesses or a product or service in general. Using the web to do this, is a lot cheaper than directory enquiries and a hell of a lot quicker than using a telephone book or directory.

A website containing your business information is available 24 hours a day, this can be printed and can be bookmarked to return to later. Furthermore potential customers can contact you using the desired communication channel you display.

5. Global Reach
Ok, a lot of people use the advantage of having a global reach to say things like “you can sell your products to people overseas” and “people like to buy the latest and best products”, yes of course you can but you already know that. Having a global reach means that people from all over the world can buy your products, however again it doesn’t have to be a tangible product it could be an e-book or a series of videos.

6. Open 24/7 365 days/year

Your shop is always open so to speak. Visitors can enter your shop any time of the day – before 9am and after 5pm – because out of these hours are when people tend to surf the internet, a perfect reason why you should have an online presence

7. Cost Effective Advertising

Offline advertising generally has an extremely low conversion rate. Leaflets and brochures can be quote costly and once these have been printed and distributed and more often that not thrown away this communication channel is dead.

However using a website as a communication will always be online; this cannot be thrown away or discarded. Offline Marketing could be looked upon as a ‘push’ marketing mechanism, however having a website uses a ‘pull’ mechanism, and customers search for your services and find your website.

Think of a website as a full colour interactive brochure which you can add to whenever you like. Reduce advertising costs by using just one effective call to action / message and promoting your website address e.g. learn more about this product on our website, for more information visit http://www.domain-name.co.uk.

And finally on this one alteration to your website can be done quickly and free, this is a completely different story with marketing literature such as posters or flyers.

8. To Project a professional image – not @hotmail.co.uk

Lots of very small business nowadays has some kind of online presence. Nothing looks more unprofessional than when a company refers to one of their points of contact being your-name@hotmail.co.uk or your-name@yahoo.co.uk. This says too many consumers that the business either couldn’t afford or wasn’t bothered about investing in their company brand image, would it to be nicer to use a more user friendly and professional email such as support@your-domain.co.uk or contact@your-domain.co.uk, this gives the consumers the feeling they are dealing with a successful organisation and that their query or contact is being deal with a customer support / care team.

9. Your website can make you money – sell your products and services

Firstly before I go into this one I would like to tell you two things, I recently attended a Search Engine Optimisation seminar in London and In one of the exhibition hall I engaged in a conversation with a middle aged woman from Scotland, after discussing the topic of the seminar we were about to watch she revealed to me that she found her online success selling, get ready for it, selling books on how to make straw hats, she uncovered that she was able to quite her full time job 3 years ago to peruse her online career selling books full time, but without the full time 9 – 5 or later house, she found she could happily sit back and work 1 – 2 hours per day checking email and performing general maintenance on her website.

I think this goes to show that you need to be a retail outlet selling top brand labels in clothing to become and entrepreneur online.

A website can be a great tool in not only promoting your products but selling them to, your shop cannot be available 24 hours a day but your website can, and its probably worth mentioning again that people do tend to surf the internet most when they return from work, so why not reinforce your brand online as well as offline.

Having a website is a great way of automating your business, whilst you are having an evening off or even sleeping you website can be generating brand awareness, generating leads but more importantly generating sales and revenue for your company.

10. Word of mouth advertising

With the growing online community and social networking going on nowadays it has never been easier to like minded people to communicated, but more importantly communicate your website address or even drop it into an email. Its very common nowadays that a website address could be posted up onto a website discussion forum by a happy customer and you could expect to receive hundreds even thousand of visitors to your website from that one forum post or conversation about your company and the products and services you offer.

11. Effectively reach new markets

An overwhelming amount of people now have access to the internet whether it is through their mobile phone, pc, laptop or game console. You really can’t afford to miss out on all these potential customers. It may be that someone didn’t mean or intend to land on your website but people surf the internet in many different ways, more often than not people often refine their searches on search engine again and again until they get to the website they want, they may begin searching for “car wax” and throughout their journey they may find that they done actually want “car wax” anymore what they want now is a “car valeting service”, this is common with website users in that they do end up on a website looking at products or services they didn’t intend to look at in the first place.

12. Test the market

Many organisations at some point would like to know how their target marketing are going to react to their new product or service but are afraid of investing large amount of money into creating the product and then be disappointed by the lack of interest or enthusiasm for it. A great way to “test the market” is to expose this new product or service on your website. A typical idea of this would be if a training consultancy wished to offer a new training programme, by adding a small paragraph on the homepage of your website detailing a brief introduction into the course followed by a “click here for more information” or “contact us to register your interest”, by tracking the number of click through or page views or even email enquiries can tell you how your market has reacted to your new offering, this can then determine whether the launch of this new product is feasible. You can even go a step further and test your new found marketing on piloting product prices etc.

13. Customer Support

Provide a support area or knowledge based for your customers. This can become a hub for all your customers’ queries and questions, assistance on products, provide a variety of ways to be contacted, alternatively use a frequently asked questions to answer the most popular questions or queries – all of this can be done without using staff time, employing new resources or without even answering a phone.

14. Advertising Seasonal Offers / Special Offers

A website and having the right data capture in place is a great way to tunnel traffic into an email list. Effectively collecting customers email addresses gives you the power to contact them when you want to tell them something. You may have a seasonal offer that you wish to communicate, effective email marketing is a great way to build relationships, generate leads (by offering a free report or discount voucher in exchange for their email address, and more importantly convert leads into customers through the use tailored email that meet the demands of your customers.

Building up an intelligent database can have a massive impact on consumer retention and loyalty, knowing that Mrs Smith loves to buy books by a certain author gives you an opportunity to up sell and cross sell other books by that author / similar authors and also attempt to sell items that other people have purchased – hence giving the consumer exactly what they want, when they want it a step on from this is to build an incentivised loyalty program e.g. buy this book and get another book for half price, all of this is possible.
Every one of your customers can be alerted about this special offer at the click of a button, and compared to the cost of offline marketing this is extremely low cost with a higher conversion rate and an even higher return on investment.

Arkansas Lake

This Arkansas lake community is fortunate to have 7 pristine Ozark mountain lakes within the 13,000 plus acre development. These Arkansas lakes are owned and maintained by the Cherokee Village Suburban Improvement District (CVSID), whose sole purpose is to take care of the property owner amenities. All of our lakes are fully stocked with largemouth bass, crappie, catfish & bluegill. Enjoy peaceful boating, family Water Skiing, and fantastic, low pressured fishing any 1 of the 7 lakes in Cherokee Village, Arkansas.

Our Arkansas Lakes:

Thunderbird – This is the largest of the Cherokee Village, Arkansas lakes, at 264 acres. It’s about 75 feet deep at the dam, with an average depth of around 25 feet deep and over 7 miles of shoreline. There’s also a marina located on Thunderbird. Property owners (and their families and friends) can enjoy fishing, boating and water skiing on this pristine body of water. The lake is fully stocked with largemouth bass, crappie, catfish and bluegill. Thunderbird also has unique distinction that it shares with it’s sister lake, Sequoyah–they’re connected! That’s right, you can boat from one lake to the other.

Sequoyah – At just over 75 acres, it ranks as the 3rd largest lake in the village. It is approximately 55 feet deep at the dam and encompasses over 2.3 miles of shoreline. Owners can enjoy boating, outstanding fishing and a private beach on Sequoyah. And if you get in the mood to do some water skiing, just boat on over to Thunderbird!

Omaha – This is the 2nd largest lake in Cherokee Village, and it also has a marina. At 139 acres and about 40 feet deep at the dam, it has over 4.7 miles of scenic shoreline. The incredible fishing pairs nicely with the water skiing and boating that is offered on Omaha.

Chanute – This lake stands at 65 acres in size with over 2.2 miles of shoreline. Enjoy peaceful fishing at this lake out by the South Golf Course.

Navajo – At 25 feet deep and 64 acres, Navajo is just barely smaller than Lake Chanute, yet it offers the same great fishing with very little pressure.

Cherokee – 37 acres and almost 1.5 miles of shoreline await the angler on this 40 foot deep lake. Teeming with fish, you’ll be amazed at the lack of competition when you launch your boat.

Aztec – The smallest of all Cherokee Village, Arkansas lakes, Aztec is only 19 acres. But what it lacks in size it makes up for in peaceful fishing. Basically undeveloped, this is truly a natural state beauty.

USA – The Perfect Destination For All Your Holiday Rental Property Needs

The United States of America is a fantastic place for your family holiday, whether you choose to go skiing in the Northern States or enjoy the sunshine that you can find in the Southerly States! Being such a vast country (the USA covers a land area of 9,161,923 sq km!), it’s a country that you will have to return to again and again.

The USA boasts a total of 50 states and the District of Columbia, and offers a huge variety of terrain, such as mountains, deserts, busy cities with skyscrapers, national parks, massive plains, beautiful coastlines and a whole lot more.

The 50 states include Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming. The USA is the ideal destination to find a property rental, as it has a massive selection of self-catering accommodation available across the country.

Whether you’re after a luxury apartment, a ski chalet, a waterfront condo or a large villa for all the family, the USA will be able to cater for you. It’s a good idea to rent in during your holiday in the USA, as it will give you the opportunity to see the places and attractions you want, without the worry and hassle of getting back to your hotel for a certain time. With so much to offer, it’s not surprising that the USA is such a popular holiday destination with so many people.

This is just a taster of just some of the many places worth a visit in the USA. Las Vegas, in the state of Nevada, has so much to offer and has something for everyone. It’s famous for its casinos, but there’s a wealth of other entertainment and attractions here, too. There’s no shortage of shows, food and drink, shopping, golf, nightlife and more. Why not take the opportunity to get married while you are in Las Vegas?

Los Angeles, which is the largest city in California and the second largest in the USA, is a great city to explore. There’s so much here to see – Hollywood, Hollywood Hills, Venice Beach, Beverly Hills etc. One big child-friendly attraction too far from LA is Disneyland, which is located in Anaheim. Also in California is San Francisco and is another must see destination in the USA. It is brimming with tourist attractions, such as the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz and San Francisco Zoo. If you’ve got kids in tow, then a visit to Orlando in Florida should definitely be on your list, as Disney World is located here! This area is perfect for a property rental during your holiday, as it boasts a good selection of self-catering accommodation. Miami, also in Florida, has beautiful warm weather all year round and offers a variety of attractions for tourists.

Washington DC is an interesting city worth exploring. It’s home to the White House and a lot more besides. New York (or the Big Apple as it’s also known) is another fantastic USA destination. It’s great for a city break and an opportunity to catch up on some shopping or a sightseeing holiday.

Here you can visit Manhattan Island, Central Park, Times Square, Broadway, the Empire State Building and more. There is just so much to see here that you will no doubt want to return for another holiday.

If you want a break from the hustle and bustle of city life, then make sure that you head to Arizona, where you can see the amazing Grand Canyon.

It’s a great area to explore on foot, too, and there are a number of sporting activities here to try such as climbing, hiking and white-water rafting.

Utah is another popular destination with tourists who want to get away from it all. It has five national parks and also some good ski resorts with some fantastic terrain and snow conditions.

Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced skier, then you will be catered for here. The USA has so much more to discover.

Why not make your next holiday a self-catering holiday in the USA?

The Perfect Tan …dying for It?

                                                THE PERFECT TAN …

                                                      Dying for it?

Who doesn’t want to look healthy, sexy, thin? Yes, even thin. At least that’s what we were told some five decades ago. We even poured on baby oil to make us tan faster. But dying for the perfect tan was never in the bargain because we didn’t know that could happen.

Today most of us know there’s danger lurking out there. And what do we do about it? We go to sun tanning salons and roast under sun lamps (which, by the way, are far worse than a day at the beach). We also go to the beach. Oh yes, we use our sunblock…maybe. We might go in the water, but do we reapply sunscreen afterward? Most likely, no.

And, at the same time, interestingly enough, we get our faces lasered, lifted, polished, oxygenized and more which makes us even more sensitive to the damaging rays of the sun, but does that knowledge stop us from excessive sun exposure? Some of us, yes.

But there are so many of us not paying heed. Why?

There are probably as many different reasons as there are people, but incomplete knowledge about how to really protect yourself is a major one.

What came to mind while writing this was my attempts to be a skier decades ago at Sun Valley, Idaho. I was doing some exploring of the west on a Greyhound bus, and thought how fun it would be to get a job in this resort town for the winter. I wasn’t thinking about skiing; I was thinking about meeting some terrific men who came there to ski.

It was nearing the fall and all the jobs I could think of were taken. The Greyhound bus would be stopping any minute and I’d get on it and return to Los Angeles.

Within five minutes, I did find work . . . right next door to the coffee shop I was waiting in. I worked at night singing and playing the piano (after 3 weeks of piano lessons) in the bar right next door. I had the day to myself … every single day.

After 3 or 4 days, I was going nuts having all this time on my hands and all of a sudden it occurred to me that if I was going to stay here, I should take lessons and learn how to ski! The only problem was that I was not at all athletic, and I was terrified of skiing after the one experience I had had at a local mountain resort skiing over the edge of a hill. I was in a class, but somehow hadn’t gotten the concept of how to stop myself.

Well, I decided to take lessons, anyway. And each time before I went up the mountain, I made a bargain with God (and I was not religious). If you get me down the hill this one time, I will never ski again. Well, this sounds pretty stupid, but I did it nonetheless. And somehow each time I went up I made it back down again.

That’s what I think happens with skin cancer. What’s a few hours in the sun? It feels so good and I’m young. If and when I ever get it, they’ll probably have developed a cure. I’m so young and it’s mostly old people who get it. Who cares what happens to me then? A bargain, a rationale, whatever you want to call it.

Protecting yourself is so easy. Use a good sunscreen (one that protects against A and B rays) and reapply it often, wear a UV hat, protective clothing, and stay out of the sun in peak hours. And the money you would use in a tanning salon … which will do a lot more damage than a day at the beach…save it for a vacation or something that will enrich your life, not something that could shorten it.

Visiting Taupo and Cambridge in the Waikato Region of New Zealand

Taupo

Taupo, a town on the shore of Lake Taupo in the middle of New Zealand’s North Island, is within the southern Waikato area and has a population of 23,000. Taupo is located at the outlet of Lake Taupo which is New Zealand’s largest lake, forming the Waikato river. The river then flows over one of New Zealand’s most stunning waterfalls, the Huka Falls, which can be viewed just north of the town.

Taupo is also a centre of volcanic and geothermal activity. There are Hot springs suitable for bathing at several places in the Taupo area, while the volcanic mountain Tauhara lies 6 kilometres (4 mi) to the east. Taupo is pronounced toe-paw in Maori, the language of New Zealand’s original pacific inhabitants. The name Taupo comes from Taupo-nui-a-Tia, which translated literally means “The great cloak of Tia” as in legend, the lake’s discoverer was Tia.

Taupo is a buzzing tourist centre – especially in summer, as it offers it’s panoramic views over the lake to the volcanic mountains of Tongariro National Park to the south.

Since the mid-1990s Taupo has become increasingly popular as a venue for major sporting events, increasingly of an international nature. The town’s compact size, clean environment, central location and supportive council and community have been the contributing factor to this outcome. Some of the major events in Taupo include A1 Grand Prix,World Water Ski Racing Championships, Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge, Great Lake Relay, Levene Half Marathon and the Maxxis FIM International Six Day Enduro.

If you enjoy tramping, kayaking, golfing, shopping, eating, sleeping, reading, fishing, hunting or sightseeing then Taupo is a place you must visit. Make Taupo your accommodation base and stay a while – Taupo is not a pass through town and you’re sure to fall in love with Lake Taupo and Taupo’s rugged Central Plateau region.

Taupo is Home of NZ Motorsport, and adventure activities include gliding, sky diving tandem, rafting, bungy jumping, kayaking, abseiling, mountain biking, sailing, jet boating, 4-wheel driving (off-road), snow boarding or skiing, rope assault course, rock climbing, parasailing, Water Skiing, horseback riding, just to name but a few! Airbourne tours include fixed wing plane, float plane, helicopter or balloon over the Lake Taupo region and surrounding volcanoes, including the Tongariro National Park. While walking tracks, golf, hot springs, spas and attractions such as prawn park and the geothermal areas provide plenty to see and do on foot.

There are many choices for Accommodation when you choose to holiday in Taupo, but if you’re looking for something special, there’s a great apartment for you to see at 110 lake terrace, Taupo.110 Lake Terrace offers self contained luxury accommodation Taupo with views looking out over Lake Taupo, New Zealand (NZ), and the volcanic plateau beyond.

Cambridge

Cambridge is a slightly smaller township in the New Zealand’s Waikato region of the North Island, located 24 kilometres southeast of Hamilton, on the Waikato River. Cambridge is known as “The Town of Trees” and the town is now also renowned for its thoroughbred horse stables, many which have produced champion horses in international racing and showjumping competitions.

Notable natives of Cambridge include members of rock band The Datsuns and equestrian double Olympic gold medal winner Mark Todd. Lake Karapiro, location of the 2010 world championships near Cambridge is recognised as one of rowings premium lakes by world standard, producing several world rowing champions and Olympic gold medalists, notably Rob Waddell, and the Evers-Swindell twins, Georgina and Caroline. World Champion and Olympic Gold Medalist cyclist Sarah Ulmer also lives and trains in Cambridge, making Cambridge worthy of its new name “Town of Trees AND Champions”.

Cruise Lines Enhance the Cruise Experience by Offering Up-to-date Amenities

With the addition of so many new mega cruise liners the cruise industry has cabin inventory with thousands of berths that they must fill each week or every two weeks. Cruisers expect these beautiful ships with a plethora of entertainment venues, shops and itineraries to choose from everyday when taking a cruise vacation. Everyone that has enjoyed the cruise experience knows that cruise lines are forever trying to come up with new ideas and interesting things to entice new and repeat cruisers. The ships are getting glitzier and the perks are getting better and better. Here are a few things that the cruise lines have added to their rosters to coax you into taking your next cruise vacation on one of their ships.

The world is health conscious today, and the cruise lines have noticed this trend. The first thing that they have decided to revamp and extend is their sports activities to cater to those cruisers who wish to indulge in the cruise experience without leaving their fitness routine behind. Royal Caribbean, for example, not only offers its rock climbing wall but has added a forty foot wave pool, an ice skating rink and a boxing arena for guests to learn how to bunch a bag. These are all very diverse activities sure to meet the tastes of almost everyone on board. On the higher end of cruise lines, SeaDreams Yachts has a retractable marina. The marina opens so that guests may enjoy all kinds of water sports including snorkeling, water skiing, kayaking, and wakeboarding. The ship is even equipped with “Segways” for the clients to borrow to get around the ship or at tour ports when docked. Segways are high tech motor scooters rarely seen in port towns which make them doubly enjoyable.

Even non cruisers know the cruise lines reputation for good food, all of the time. Now the ships are creating activities that include the cruise guests when it comes to the culinary arts. The cruise lines want to show you how to prepare great food, present it and to savor it, a talent you can take back to your own kitchen. Holland America for one, has instituted the Culinary Arts Centers fleet wide. Each year they invite 20 well known culinary experts to sail and host cooking classes. Silversea on the other hand, has had Viking create a show kitchen on the beautiful Silver Wind. Jacques Pepin is the star of Oceania’s ships doing cooking lessons, taking guests on culinary excursions in port and dining with the passengers on board. What aspiring chef would not be delighted with that?

During this time, as the cruise lines are teaching you about gourmet food what would be the perfect pairing? Well, Wine of course. Carnival has taken this step by introducing the wine-themed vacation called the Presidential Wine Club Cruise. On this wine themed Caribbean cruise they offer seminars and wine tastings from famous vineyards. They have even included the Michelin-starred chef Georges Blanc to oversee culinary dishes that are wine friendly. Silversea has instituted the Slow Food Experience excursions on its Genoa, Italy itinerary. With this unique program passengers become students at the University of Gastronomic Sciences for one day and then visit the nearby Wine Bank that has the top wines produced by 200 Italian vineyards. When touring the Iberian Peninsula, Princess Cruise passengers get to create their very own cognac in Camus, France at a family owned distiller. Another Princess Cruise line offering is a trip to Leith near Edinburgh, Scotland where you can visit a Scottish Malt Whisky Society and have single-malt tastings.

When it comes to spas, some cruisers will book just for that experience. Celebrity Cruises has packages that you can book ahead of time with a variety of spa treatments. Some of their exotic treatments include the Ceremony of Milk and Ginger, the Asian Ceremony of the Stone or the pricey Daily Well-Being Ritual. With all packages you have unlimited use of the Thalassotherapy pool. Costa Cruises offers the largest spa at sea on their Concordia. In the 20,000+ square foot spa there are Turkish baths, Rock saunas and thermals. If you book a suite on the Concordia, or a spa cabin, you have unlimited access to the Ristorante Samsaru where Chef Ettore Bocchia, another Michelin starred professional, has created the menu. All of the major cruise lines have choices which include aerobics, work out rooms with equipment, saunas, whirlpools and special programs like yoga or toning and stretching.

Because of our hectic world some people just don’t want to be without internet access. Well, the cruise industry has answered your concerns. It is safe to say that all of the mega liners have internet access. Some have portals in each berth while others have internet cafes. On the higher end cruise lines you can borrow lap tops to use in your cabin. Each cruise line is different, some charge for usage or some use it as a perk for repeat cruisers. For instance, Princess Cruises has free internet usage for their Captains Club members after they have sailed a certain amount of times on the Princess ships. The cruise lines clubs (once you have sailed on a particular cruise line you are automatically a club member) all have different “perks” for different levels of repeat cruisers but that is for another discussion.

As you can see, the cruise lines are keeping up with all cruisers demands so you have lots of options to choose from on your next cruise vacation. Check out all the cruise lines with your Travel Agent and pick the one that is tailor made for your needs.

To be more specific, I would recommend Silver Lake up Big Cottonwood. I also wouldn’t limit your mountain experience to just Big Cottonwood. Little Cottonwood and Immigration Canyons are also great for hiking. Millcreek Canyon is gorgeous, too.

Other things I would suggest are the aforementioned Kennecott Copper Mine, Hogle Zoo, Red Butte Gardens, Thanksgiving Point [shops and gardens], Timpanogos Cave National Monument, and Bridal Veil Falls. The Alpine Loop connects American Fork and Provo canyon and has gorgeous views along the way.

Owner Financed homes on waterfront property for less than $200k

One of the best kept secrets in the Atlanta Area is a cozy private lake located at the corner of Gwinnett, DeKalb and Rockdale Counties. This lovely, tree lined lake covers 96 acres and is suitable for just about all water sports for young and old and is home for some fabulous houses for less than $200K. Your kids will find healthy enjoyment Water Skiing and wake boarding and of course swimming and diving. The BASS fishing is absolutely fabulous, witnessed by the huge turnout at the twice annual fishing tournament held by the Neighborhood activities committee. Large mouth bass of 10 pounds and more are not uncommon and of course there is an abundance of brim and catfish.

This summertime mecca is located just 30 minutes from downtown Atlanta and offers a wonderful, rural ambience that sort of reminds me of Maybury RFD, not Atlanta, Georgia. Norris Lake was originally created as a 30 acre pond in 1936 and was intended to be a fishing camp with a few small cottages for weekend retreats. Over time more land was flooded and plans evolved to make the area a golf course community.

Fortunately, that never happened but most of the small seasonal homes have been replaced by new year round, houses and new waterfront homes continue to be built even today. But even with all of the newer homes, Norris Lake still feels like a page of history. Many residents still own and operate vintage power boats from the 1970’s, including Master Craft and Correct Craft, inboard, ski boats. Dotting the shore line are a number of little boat houses built in the 1950’s and 60’s that are barely big enough for a boat. Yet, right next door you are likely to find a new $80,000 wake board boat, jet ski or pontoon party boat.

Norris Lake is privately owned and access is granted only to resident members and their guests. Thus, on any given summer weekend, you will seldom experience more than a half dozen power boats on the water at a time so you never have the confusion and traffic of Lake Lanier. And speaking of Lanier, even during the peak of the drought when Lanier was virtually un-accessible, Norris was filled to capacity and overflowing the spillway.

Waterfront homes generally are priced between $150,000 and $350,000.
