Jack Johnson Tickets – Jack Johnson Tailors Sixth Album, ‘To the Sea,’ to Fans

Jack Johnson released his sixth album, To the Sea, on Tuesday, June 1 and the characteristically mellow musician chatted about his expectations for the record with MTV News. Johnson told MTV News that he won’t even know about the response for To the Sea because he is going off the grid on a camping trip!

“Generally, I’ve been out and about when the records come out … [but] we’re about to leave for two weeks on a little camping trip, [and] that works better for me, a little bit. Get away from it and not think about it too much … Whenever friends’ albums come out, I go out and buy them. But when it’s my own, I don’t want to jinx it,” Johnson revealed.

Back in April, Johnson’s To the Sea scored the No. 1 spot on the iTunes albums chart based only on pre-orders so it is safe to say he can’t jinx the success of his sixth album! As opposed to album sales, Johnson is more concerned with relating to his many fans.

“I guess, with all the albums, I never used to think about it, but now there’s different songs that people will tell me, you know, ‘This song really means a lot to me after I lost a close friend,’ or, ‘This song is what we danced to a at our wedding’,” said Johnson before adding, “So I hope there’s songs on this—as I went through certain things in my life, whether they were heavy or just something fun, and wrote a song about it—hopefully, people can take those songs and they mean something and they can use it in their life.”

Although fans of the folk rocker were ready for him to release the follow-up to 2008’s platinum-selling Sleep Through the Static, Johnson didn’t anticipate releasing an album so soon. USA Today reports that Johnson planned on taking a hiatus from writing and recording in the wake of his father’s death last August after battling cancer. Johnson pays tribute to his late father on To the Sea, while the album also includes four love songs for his wife Kim and one aptly-titled track—”My Little Girl”—which was inspired by the couple’s third child. Fans with <a href=”http://www.stubhub.com/jack-johnson-tickets/”>Jack Johnson tickets</a> from <a href=”http://www.stubhub.com/”>StubHub.com</a> can hear Johnson’s new songs when his tour kicks off July 9.

It wouldn’t be a Jack Johnson album without an aquatic mention here or there, and the former professional surfer told USA Today, “I recently started to understand the significance of growing up surrounded by the ocean. The idea was of a father leading a son to the sea the way my father did. Until this album, I stayed away from any kind of oceanic references after being labeled this beach-boy surfer guy.”

After suffering from an accident at the famed Oahu’s Pipeline Masters when he was 17, Johnson earned a film degree from the University of California-Santa Barbara. He began to focus on a career in music after releasing the 2000 surf documentary Thicker Than Water with friends and professional surfers Emmett and Chris Malloy. Fellow laid-back musician G. Love took Johnson under his wing and the rest is, as they say, history.

While the iPhone is the undeniable king of smartphones, security flaws in the operating system create vulnerabilities hackers can exploit to steal email, contact and personal data. Surprisingly, smartphone users are seemingly unaware of data security issues with their cellular phones. According to a recent Trend Micro report, respondents (44%) feel surfing the internet on their smartphone is just as safe as surfing the web on their computer, despite the fact that most smartphones offer no internet surfing security. What can you do to protect your iPhone? Use these tips:

1. Wifi Hotspots Attract Hackers – those bent on maliciously collecting information from laptop and smartphone users know that wifi hotspots offering broadband internet access to anyone are great places to troll for the unprotected equipment. When surfing at your local hot spot, make sure you know whose network you are connecting to. Reference the name of the hotspot and ask yourself if the name makes sense with the location. For instance, all Starbucks have a hotspot named “att” that requires validation through the iPhone’s Safari internet browser. Connecting to any other wifi network increases your risk of data theft.

2. Wifi Hotspot Login Page – many wifi hotspots require you to accept terms of service and login to a web page on your internet browser. While checking a box to accept terms of service is rather innocuous, no other information is typically collected (such as name, address, credit card number, etc) so be wary of any login process requesting such information. Also (more applicable to laptops) if the login page seems to be taking an extraordinary amount of time to load or appears to be loading a large file to your laptop or smartphone immediately disconnect your wireless internet connection as malicious software may be downloading to your device.

3. Password Protect Your Data – most smartphones provide a feature to password protect your device and the data inside it. This is typically enabled in a settings panel on the phone and requires the owner to enter a password before gaining access to phone data and functionality. While this might be annoying it is a great way to protect your data from theft, especially if your phone is lost or is left unattended in public for an extended period of time.

4. Layered Protection – exercising caution when connecting with wifi hotspots and password protecting your data is a great start, but you can increase your data protection with additional layers of security such as the Trend Micro application Trend Smart Surfing freely available on the iPhone application store that blocks users from accidentally visiting a site that could exploit an iPhone vulnerability.

These simple steps will greatly increase data security on your smartphone device and better protect you from identity theft. Also be certain to regularly update your smartphone or iPhone to receive the most up-to-date security patches made available from hardware manufacturers.

Apps. on the latest Apple ipod?

Is it possible to load all the same apps. on-to a top end ipod as you can have on a iphone. ??
My daughter has an iphone loaded with many apps and I would like a similar device to hold photos, clips, books, games etc etc etc, but my finances will not run to an iphone, but I can afford a top end ipod. Also is it possible to “hook” it up to my wireless router/sender to surf the web in my house, I have a wireless 10″ notebook. ?? Excuse my ignorance but I am of the “older” generation and not all that computer “savy”
Any help would be a great help Thanks.
P.S. I don’t like asking in shops etc in case I appear a “dork”

Yes, if you have a Wireless Router (if you use a Blue Wire called “Ethernet” then you do not have Wi-Fi) you can connect to the Internet.

You can get and load all the Apps and Books if you use the same Email/iTunes Account as your daughter, along with Syncing with her computer’s iTunes Library. Just plug-in your iPod Touch to her computer, then “Set Up from Backup” and then select one of your Daughter’s backups from her iPhone, and then after it finished Sync all your Apps / Books and everything and you iPod Touch will be completly identical to your Daughters!!!

Hope this helps

EDIT: If you daughter get’s Wi-Fi in your house, you can get Wi-Fi with your iPod Touch

How to find the perfect golf vacation packages out of the country

Before searching for golf vacation packages, you must decide what you really want to do. Some people just want to take golf lessons for beginners only during their holidays, while others want to play golf alone. Think of how many activities you and holiday time, and how much time you spend with your family. Of course, do not forget your budget.

You want to learn for beginners, golf vacation must be aware that a package of one week to learn golf vacation can be very intense. You usually get your golf in the morning and then play 18 holes in the afternoon. These packages do not leave you with a lot of time for other leisure activities. If you want to spend some time on the beach, you should try a less intense package – something like two weeks. Otherwise, you are better off learning to play golf at home, then a golf course real> Holiday in a resort with golf courses that provide beginners.

http://www.belizevacationpackages.goodarticlesite.com/how-to-find-the-perfect-golf-vacation-packages-out-of-the-country/

If what you want is to play golf, then you have a wide range of choices. You can go for a golf vacation in the Caribbean with plenty of sun, sand and surf. Work on your tan in the morning, play golf, the afternoon and after that just enjoy the nightlife. Caribbean island nations have warm, friendly people and many golf packages for every budget possible. Here is a list of islandsknown for its famous golf resort:

Barbados has many world class golf courses. It also hosted the 2006 World Golf Championships-World Cup.
Dominican Republic is also known for its many world class golf courses and resorts.
Jamaica
Aruba
Virgin Islands
Puerto Rico

Golfers who prefer colder climates may prefer to Scotland, where golf was invented to go. Have St Andrews, home of the most famous golf courses in the world. Or you could go to get to see the beaten track -rarely tour parts of Scotland, while in some good golf round. Many of these off-beat Scottish courses are set in small towns. The environment is often breathtaking, with mountains, meandering rivers and sometimes even a castle. Some of these courses are more than 100 years, and can play very interesting – follow some very old designs with lots of dramatic elevation changes. Those of you with excellent golf swing techniques will find it very exciting,to play these holes. You will need your high number of woods and irons, hybrid clubs and would not go amiss, either. These out-of-the-art courses are very easy on your budget until you can not take the 5-star service.

can i learn how to surf in a day?

I’m going to Puerto Rico in a few weeks, and I have a bucketlist for it. I want adventure.
Surfing is on the bucketlist.
I’m NOT talking about how to be really ‘good’ and I’m not going to enter competitions.
I get to rent a surf board for ONE day and ONE DAY only, I might get to take lessons that day but I might not.

I’m a thirteen year old girl, I know how to wakeboard, waterski and kneeboard. I’ve never tried surfing before.
My only goal is to catch a wave. I don’t care if it’s only one, and I wipeout twenty seconds later, I just want to catch a wave.

Is this a realistic goal?
I should also note two things:
1) I’m not planning to give up, I don’t care if it takes ALL day of being in the ocean.

&

2) I have really good balance. I figure skate and used to do Ballet and Gymnastics.

Being able to stand up and ride a wave on the first day isn’t hard at all, as long as you have somebody show you some proper technique or observe the more experienced surfers in the water. In fact you’ll probably be able to get to your feet in the first few hours. Stay inside and catch the white wash as it goes by, it will just carry you along and provide an easy first wave. Make sure you get a board on the larger side, nothing short, you might look cool walking down the beach with one but it will be embarrassing in the water. I suggest getting something in the 7 to 10 foot range. You’ll find only your balance will come in handy, surfing is like no other board sport in the world so wakeboarding and waterskiing will be far from useful experience. I was actually in Puerto Rico about two years back for a big competition I was a competitor in. I suggest trying to surf at Jobos Beach on Aguadilla side, if you get down there, definitely try the Mahi fish sandwich at Happy Belly’s right on Jobos Beach, absolutely delicious (:

Baby Boomers, The U. S. Economic Collapse, And The Future Of Senior Housing

The Baby Boom generation, the nearly 80 million of us who were born between 1946 and 1964, is the largest in U. S. history. Its size alone guaranteed that Boomers would be our most influential generation, and indeed their impact on the country’s social, cultural and economic institutions is unprecedented. A “pig moving through a python,” as the Baby Boom generation has been aptly, if somewhat unpleasantly characterized, is responsible for the youth movements of the sixties, including those advocating civil rights and feminist issues, as well as antiwar protests. As they entered their twenties, recoiling against the excesses of the Nixon presidency and the Vietnam War, Boomers adopted a culture of excess, coining the phrase “Don’t trust anyone over 30,” deeply critical of their parents’ conservative values, especially those involving spending and saving.

Boom Times. Boomers have spent wildly and lavishly on themselves, certain that the economic prosperity that followed World War II would continue indefinitely. They turned into the “Me” generation, its purpose, “Shop ‘till you drop,” its goal, “He who dies with the most toys wins.” In a direct rebuke to their parents, Boomers spent rather than saved, driven by wants rather than needs. When the first wave of them decided to buy cars, the auto industry instantly responded, gearing up to produce new cars at twice the rate of growth of the American population.

Similarly, the housing supply was insufficient to meet Boomers’ needs, and the unprecedented demand for the limited supply of homes ratcheted up housing prices, which eventually produced the “McMansion” phenomenon. These are 3,000- to 5,000-square foot homes especially designed for Boomer couples wanting luxurious spaces that would confirm their opulent lifestyles. Indeed, the McMansion reflects an especially powerful Baby Boomer trait: success deserves to be visible. Trophies and lifestyle choices are the best evidence of a lifetime of achievement.

Now in early- and mid-middle age, between 45 and 63 years old, the Baby Boom generation was, until very recently, wealthier than any other age group, controlling 70 percent of the total net worth of American households–$7 trillion–owning four-fifths of all money in financial institutions, and accounting for nearly one-half of total consumer demand.

Boom Bust. Unlike their predecessors, whose accumulated savings funded their retirement, Baby Boomers have counted on their assets to deliver needed wealth. The spectacular performance of the stock market and the recent astounding appreciation of housing values produced the results that are summarized above.

However, the stock market lost 47 percent of its value between September 30, 2007, and December 2, 2008, a decline of about $11 trillion. This has primarily impacted older Americans, whose retirement accounts lost $2.8 trillion, or nearly one-third of their value. (http://www.urban.org/publications/901206.html).

Equally devastating is a recent report by the Center for Economic and Policy Research (http://www.cepr.net), which concludes that the collapse of the housing bubble has decimated the holdings of the vast majority of near retirees, who will have little or no housing wealth this year and will be almost totally reliant on Social Security and Medicare to support them after retirement.
Boom Bust and Senior Housing. It has long been assumed that Boomers’ post-retirement housing would mirror the opulence that has typified their existence, high-quality, amenity-rich living with enhanced amenity packages, including a library, movie theater, lounge and billiard room, beauty salon and barber shop, chapel, heated swimming pool and hot tub, bistro, formal dining room and activities rooms.

Independent living communities will be expected to offer a range of technological amenities to meet the expectations of this tech-savvy generation, including building-wide wireless Internet access, computer labs outfitted with software intended to challenge and stimulate residents’ minds, and Internet cafes and bistros where they can take their laptops and socialize with others while surfing the Web.

Some senior housing developers and marketers are beginning to pay close attention to the impact of the current economic downslide, which has drained many Boomers’ savings and devastated the value of their housing. The fact is that the collision between economic reality and the expectations of Baby Boomers about the quality of their post-retirement housing will dumbfound this, the “entitlement” generation. Expecting McMansions, nearly destitute Boomers will likely encounter retirement housing on a par with their first apartments.
And what about Boomers who at some point will need long-term health care? Those who are relying on Medicare to cover its costs will be equally dumbfounded: Medicare doesn’t pay for long-term health care. Boomers themselves will be writing the check for the $2,500-$3,500/month cost (in current dollars) of assisted living, the $4,800/month cost of nursing homes–or the $8,000/month cost of round-the-clock in-home health care. Only when Boomers’ personal assets are gone will a government agency, Medicaid, get involved. Medicaid’s the one that helps the poor and disabled, which means that the costs of care for the overwhelming majority of Baby Boomers will be paid from state or federal funds. Medicaid, the program that was established to pay for the healthcare needs of the poor and disabled, will rapidly be transformed into the long-term care insurance program for America’s Baby Boom generation.

16gb Apple Iphone : a Review

The Apple iPhone is not just a cell phone. Why? Because it is a phone, music player, video player, internet device, a camera and all this on 16GB memory.

The iPhone is slim and sleek at just 11.6mm thick, 2.4-inches wide, and 4.5-inches tall with a 2 megapixel camera. It allows you to make a call by simply tapping a name or number in your address book, a favorites list, or a call log. All your contacts from a Windows PC, Mac, or Internet service are automatically synced.

An iPod : With a 3.5 inch display widescreen iPod with touch controls where you can enjoy your music, audiobooks, videos, TV shows, and movies. Plus sync the content from the iTunes library on your PC or Mac all with the touch of a finger.

For Internet: It features rich HTML email and Safari browser, the most advanced web browser ever on a portable device. It has built in Yahoo and Goggle for convenient searching. You can multitask by making a phone call while emailing a photo or surfing the web over a Wi-Fi connection.

A YouTube player is available on the home screen, so that you can access and browse YouTube videos wherever you go. And when you find a video you want to send to your friends, you can even create an email with the link in it for you.

The Maps application on the iPhone approximates your location using cell tower information and enabled local Wi-Fi networks. Drop a pin on a map, then move it to a specific location to find nearby points of interest. Even check real-time traffic information.

The Multi-Touch touch screen display lets you control everything using only your fingers. You can type using the predictive keyboard. A full QWERTY keyboard allows you to send and receive SMS messages, email, etc.

The iPhone uses OS X, the worlds most advanced operating system. This software completely redefines what you can do with a mobile phone. It uses quad-band GSM, the global standard for wireless communication. iPhone supports AT&Ts EDGE network, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR, which links to the compact Bluetooth headset. The iPhone automatically switches between EDGE and Wi-Fi to provide the fastest data connection possible.

Apple iPhone has a Built-in rechargeable lithium ion battery with Talk time: Up to 8 hours, Standby time up to 250 hours, Internet use: Up to 6 hours, Video playback: Up to 7 hours and Audio playback: Up to 24 hours.

These are some of the reasons why Apple iPhone has an upper hand over other cell phones.

Would you eat an iphone made out of Dark Chocolate?

It’s a shame because suppose this iphone works like any other iphone.

You can use it for phone calls, mapquest, youtube, email, as an ipod, compass, photos, digital camera……web surfing…..with FREE Wifi

And if you take a bite out of it, there goes your iphone…..also the battery is made out of chocolate of course, and the wires…..

It tastes DELICIOUS! it comes with a case that’s made out of frozen whipped cream……

IT’s the BEST CHOCOLATE YOU WILL EVER PUT IN YOUR MOUTH?

Eat it or use it? What would you do?
Also if you MUST take a bite out of it, don’t eat the antenna in the lower left corner of it, you will lose your reception
an electrical engineer might ask how this is possible.
Here’s how: the chocolate contains metal deposits which would sound un-edible, however, the chemical elements in saliva chemically react with the metal to create a new substance that is not harmful to swallow

depends is it a chocolate apple?

get it? oh i don’t need to impress you guys =p

Oahu Vacation Packages – The Place Which Gave Surfing To The World

Oahu with its huge sea waves has long been acknowledged as the birth place of surfing.
He`e nalu
as surfing is known in the Hawaiian language has been around for ages. The earliest reference to it is found as petroglyphs on lava rocks. There are many chants dating back to 1500s about surfing. These chants narrate stories of great feats that the surfers had.

References have also been found in the journals written by Captain James King, 1779. Surfing as we know has been around for quite some time. Here is a little background on Surfing History.

The Hawaiian Tradition of Surfing

In ancient Hawaiian society, surfing pervaded every aspect. It touched the social structure, religion and even myths. Surfing was done on long narrow hardwood boards.

Surfing was such a major part of the ancient Hawaiian society that it even finds mention in the code of taboos, kapu. The Kapu defined the social strata, the royals and the commomners. The surf zones were not untouched from these taboos. Specific beaches were allotted to the chiefs, ali’I and the commoners, maka ai nana, could use beaches specified for them only.

The Demise of Surfing

The play activities of Hawaii, surfing, hula and others saw a decline during the 1820s with the advent of Christian missionaries. They imposed a puritanical code and work ethics. The Kapu system was overthrown by the favorite queen of Kamehameha, Ka`ahumanu and the beaches were freed for everyone, but for more than 150 years no one enjoyed them.

The Resurrection of Surfing

Three non-Hawaiian men were responsible for the resurrection of surfing in the 1900’s. Visitors to the Waikiki beach were amazed by the surfing stunts performed by George Freeth on the great waves of Oahu. At the same time international audiences wee introduced to this adventure sport through the writings of Jack London. At around the same time Alexander Hume Ford found the Outrigger Canoe Club on the beaches of Waikiki. Freeth was responsible for bringing surfing to California. Surfing was taken to Australia by Duke Paoa Kahanamoku, native Hawaiian, who was an Olympic swimming champion.

By the 1960’s the ancient sport of Hawaii became a cult in itself a huge industry was built around it which included equipment, surf wear, accessories, books and magazines, adventure vacations, music and films.

Big Wave Competition

The quicksilver, Big Wave Invitational In Memory of Eddie Aikau is held every year in the winters. It is held at Waimea Bay. It has been a tradition since 1985. it is in memory of Eddie aikau who gave his life to save the lives of fellowmen.

Oahu—the king of surfing.

Oahu is undoubtedly the best place in the whole world to surf. The waters maintain ideal temperature throughout the year and there are at least, if not more 1700 mapped sites for surfing. The best waves in oahu range from gentle rollers of Waikiki to massive body crushers on the north shore.

Joint Venture Adviser Deals for Earnings

If you follow the easy steps below you can quickly be on your way to earning $500 per week or with a little more effort, $500 per day.

Identify your passion and hobby so that you will not only make money with your brokering company, but enjoy working on it too! The first step in becoming a Joint Venture Broker is finding sites to broker for. Now this may take a little digging around at first but think of it this way, once you find a site to broker for you can be profiting from it for months if not years to come. So an hour or so effort in locating a cracking little site with a two tier affiliate program is a drop in the ocean compared to the rewards you can be reaping.

What gets you really pumped up and excited? What subject would you love your brokering business to be based around? You should be able to wake up and make that short walk to your home office with that excited feeling at what the day holds for you business wise.

Right, so I want to get your creative juices flowing with regards to your passion, hobby and areas of skill. List your answers to the following questions.

Now I know you’re perhaps saying to yourself that you don’t have any specialist knowledge. Don’t worry, you most certainly do have some kind of knowledge or skill that you can turn into a hugely profitable home based business.

You simply need to stop and think about your life experiences. Create a list of all the jobs you’ve had. Do the same for all of the hobbies you’ve ever pursued, all the volunteer work you’ve done and all the subjects you have an interest in.

Ask yourself these questions

Do you play any sports or are there any sports you’d like to know more about?

If you won the lottery what activities would you spend your money on?

What web sites do you visit when you’re just surfing the web for fun?

Are you a member of any forums or newsgroups?

Take a look through your book collection, are there any specialist books you own?

Do you have any specialist education or have you ever taken a class in a specialist subject like ceramic decoration for example?

Do you collect anything? If so what?

What television shows do you enjoy most? Are they in a specialist market?

Browse the magazine rack in your local bookstore.

Go to craft fairs and exhibitions and look out for these little niches you can exploit.

The reason I want you to start with a list of your passions and hobbies is because by starting off brokering deals on a subject you love will enable you to be even more motivated to get started. You can of course go after more lucrative markets once you are convinced that you can make money with this.

Find specific markets you can broker for from your list of passions and hobbies.

Using ClickBank drill down into a niche market and find an idea for the types of sites you want to broker for (If you haven’t done so already in step one).

Affiliate directories find a web site with a two tier affiliate program that matches the criteria I will outline shortly. There is absolutely nothing technical about this system whatsoever. In fact, this is probably the hardest part of becoming a Joint Venture Broker, and this couldn’t be easier!

Remember we are looking for sites with two tier affiliate programmers. We also are looking for sites that:

Pay at least $10 commission per second tier sale (the higher the better. I certainly wouldn’t go lower than $10 because it will be harder to broker deals and also harder to make the serious cash this system offers).
Preferably provides the marketer with ready to go marketing materials like email promotions, articles, adverts, banner ads etc.
Has a “cookie tracking system” for their affiliate program which means that even if the marketers you try to broker deals with don’t sign up on the day you contact them, but sign up months later, you still get credited for any sales they make months down the line.

Again using clickbank start building up a list of site domain names of clickbank products in your market, saving the list of domain names in either Microsoft excel, word, notepad, or anywhere where you can save them.

Go to your list of clickbank domain names and use the “Google: link” trick to find web sites already promoting products in the niche market you are brokering for. Add them to your list of site names. Now start contacting all of the site owners and try brokering deals. All this takes is an email (and possibly follow up emails).

Using Google type in “(your niche market) ezine” to find tens of thousands of sites in your niche market that have ready made email lists to promote to. Start going through them and emailing them trying to broker deals and getting them to promote the site you are brokering for. This trick in itself would take you months to broker all the deals available, yet each and every deal could be worth hundreds if not thousands of dollars to you.

Use the “Google: related” and “google: allintitle” tricks to find even more perfect sites to contact and try and broker deals with.

Once you see how much you can make selling other peoples products, create your own and go out in search of brokering deals for yourself!

Pop Music – History and Facts Revealed

One genre that appeals to most everyone is pop music owing to its light and catchy qualities. Pop music is so aptly called because it is a categorization that is largely based on the popularity of a song. There is no clear and distinct parameters to classify a song as pop music. For the most part, its popularity should translate to records sold and radio air times.

Pop music is a combination of various styles influenced by the evolving music forms. The development of pop music is one that is progressive, rolling over from generation to generation to snowball into its current form. As this is so, pop music has taken so many forms through each decade to reflect the musical preference of a particular generation.

Rich Vocals
During the 50s, popular tunes were those that were vocally rich with a string accompaniment and a vocal chorus back up. Country music and American folk music were great hits along with variations of standard formats. Great American songbook classics, crooners and big band singers adopted other musical techniques to give their music a modern twist. The listening public lapped these enhancements up and caused songs like Mack the Knife and Singing the Blues to top the charts. In contrast to these classics, rock and roll likewise rocked the American music industry with fast and infectious beats of Rock Around the Clock, Heartbreak Hotel, and Tutti Fruitti. These tunes not only rocked the airwaves, they also rocked the dance floors.

All in the Band
The next decade brought in what is called as the novelty song characterized by humorous lyric combined with melodies that are simple yet catchy (i.e. Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini, California Girls, and Good Vibrations). Worthy of note is the fact that the vocal harmonies and lyrics of these songs revolved around Californias surf, girls and cars. Thus the label Surf pop. Other popular music during the sixties were youth-oriented band music in up-tempo beat, I Want to Hold Your Hand,Cant Buy Me Love, Downtown, and To Sir With Love.” African American music likewise joined the popular music scene with its doo-wop style that gives prominence to melodic sounds and vocal harmonies. Rhythm and blues as well as Motown soul music were also chart-toppers during this period.

Cacophony of Sounds
From the 1970s to the present, pop music is as diverse as they come. A slowdown in musical tempo was seen in the early seventies when folk-based artists took center stage. Popular during these times were songs written by the singers themselves. Tempos picked up again towards in the second half of the decade when disco-dancing became a favorite pastime among the youth. Dance tunes Play That Funky Music, Staying Alive, and YMCA dominated the airwaves and the disco scene.

The 1980s and 1990s music scene was composed of music soundtracks, international hits, rock and roll, and pop icon duets. Another music development in this decade is the advent of charity records where artists put their talents together to raise funds for a cause. Particularly characteristic of the last two decades are the prevalence of songs by female artists like Mariah Carrey, Celine Dion, and pop icon Madonna. The new millennium kept with soulful ballads, hip hop pieces and dance tracks. Movie soundtracks remained chart-toppers.

Pop music is a genre that will always be around. People will always listen to music and music labels and radio stations will continue to track what songs people are listening to. For as long as people are playing and listening to music, there will always be a chart-topper.

How can I get the most out of my trip to Southern California?

I’m going to Palm Springs Nov 22- Dec1 to visit family, but I would like to make a trip to LA or Orange County during that time. I know about the Walk of Fame, Universal Studios, etc. but I don’t want this trip to be about that. I really love the relaxed surf, reggae/punk and local music culture that, to me, is characterized by Southern California. What are some things that I can do to experience that aspect of LA? I would love to know any suggestions, even better if they are not touristy kind of stuff.

It’s interesting to me that some things are considered “touristy”, and therefore to be avoided. On the contrary, Mrs. Obviousman and I love to go to “touristy” places like Disneyland or City Walk. But not for the usual reasons. We’ve ridden all the rides and eaten at every restaurant at both places. One of our favorite activities is to grab a table where we can see the people going by, and just PeopleWatch. With the infinite variety of people here in LA, it is endlessly interesting. At least to us.

If you want to check out the music and club scene, check out metromix.com. They have an extensive guide to local clubs, and you can pick and choose from the incredible variety of music in LA. I can’t really give good recommendations on this anymore, since I am far removed from the club scene in both time and distance. However, my network of spies tell me that Metromix does a good job reporting on the LA club and music scene.

Check out Venice Beach. It’s a bit touristy, but also another good source of people watching.
