Best Selling Artist Of The Sixties

Deciding upon the best selling artist of the 60s is very difficult, there were so many greats. Music was the life raft for the public and artist alike, a connection to the world at large, there is no surprise these artist top the list. The best artists of the 60s is led by the Beatles one of the hottest properties on the recording market with at least 500 million in sales during the 60s era. This young group became a household word around the world with hits like A Hard Days Night, Beatle Mania was everywhere. In the Jazz and swing category was the melodious voice of Bing Crosby. The electrifying Michael Jackson holds the record as the King of Pop and Madonna the “Material Girl,” ranks among the top ten.

The best artists of the 60s sang pop, rock and jazz, their music as diversified as their voices. Elvis the King of Rock and Roll, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd were burning the charts in the 60s. Elton John, Frank Sinatra and Julio Iglesias were all hot properties, all extremely talented people surfing the airways, and some the movie screens. The “First Lady of Soul,” Aretha Franklin was topping the charts the show stopping swing of the Temptations had the world standing at attention while Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones and Jimi Hendrix wowed crowds around the world.

Jackie Wilson was burning the charts in the 60s with his soulful sound. More best selling artist in the sixties were Simon & Garfunkel, Jefferson Airplane, Otis Redding and the rocking Dr of Soul James Brown. The era of free love and wood stock was there with the music of Mick Jagger, Janice Joplin and Marvin Gaye. The world listened to the deep vocal sound of The Righteous Brothers, The Who, Johnny Cash, David Bowie and the Zombies. There was no doubt the best selling artists in the 60s were good but only time knew their music would transcend decades, lighting the imagination of future generations.

Certainly there is debate over the best selling artist in the 60s but the music of the artist listed still plays a significant part in the music world. The 60s was an era of great change and music was no different. The best selling artists in the 60s caught the mood of the time and a new political consciousness. A change in public awareness was flooding the airways and the tone of music was a leading influence.

About the Author

My Brothers “Surf Music”?

My brother is a surfer, so he listens to what he calls “surf music”. The only artists i know he listens to are Jack Johnson Nine Inch Nails and Switchfoot….. i really like his music, but dont know the titles of the songs or artists. So all in all, what are some good “surf artists”?

Surf music started in the late 50s, became hugely popular in the 1960s and saw a big revival in the 80s.
Surf music has blended with rockabilly, psychobilly, punk, garage, spaghetti western (euro trash), and tiki lounge (hawaiian) music over the years. It can have a really hard aggressive edge or it can be very relaxing.

Early pioneers are Dick Dale, Link Wray, and Duane Eddy.

Surf music seeks to emulate the raw power of the ocean. It does this with the use of staccato guitar riffs, power chords, and glissandos (rapid descending pitches). It also strives for the exotic, often using arabic, latin, and other “forgeign” melodies.

Beach music is totally different- like the beach boys and Frankie Valley- blah.

While surf music is declining again in the US, it is still very popular in Mexico, Japan, Europe, and basically the rest of the world. Recent (well, faily recent) U.S. surf bands might include the butthole surfers, the aqua velvets, the tikitones, the blue hawiians, the aquabats, los straightjackets, Southern Culture On the Skids (SCOTS). Surf bands tend to come and go rather quickly- but they usually leave behind good stuff. Some of the original surf bands from the sixties are still touring though.

Jack Johnson is not really surf but the mellow attitude makes him a good match to mix in with surf. Nine inch nails is really good too, but not really surf either.

Check out this excellent site for an overview of the surf genre and follow the links to other surf websites…

http://trustarvibrations.blogspot.com/

Dig back far enough in this site to sample one of the mexican or japanese compilations to get a tasty overview- you’ll probably be hooked right away. Might I suggest searching the site for these compilations:
Swivlin’ Wahini 2000
Locos Instrumentales Around The World 2003
Rat Holic Presents California Sun
Surf Mex 1 2000

Good luck and have fun!

iphone or blackberry curve 8310?

im thinking of one of these phones
what are the audience of both phones?
pros and cons?
for a teen?

also i already have an ipod touch and ipod classic so im good with the music/video part

and hows the internet surfing on the curve?

Definitely the iPhone, plain and simple. The iPhone is so much more than a phone, and is superior to any phone currently out there. It’s fully touch screen for starters, a feature that still no other phone has. You can hack into the iPhone and install many, many more features and applications on it. And Apple comes out with updates for the iPhone that enable it to have smarter, better features, so it never goes out of style. They constantly come out with improvements that can be downloaded into your iPhone within minutes. You can’t do this with any other cell phone. Hope this helps…

Why come to Costa Rica

What’s up guys, it’s a beautiful morning here in Costa Rica. How are you doing today? My name is Bill, I’m down here in Jaco Beach and it’s absolutely incredible. I’ve worked with surf camps and surf organizations, teaching in schools and Surfing around the world over the past 15 years and I’ve landed myself in Costa Rica and this is absolutely the most beautiful place I’ve ever seen- to learn how to surf or to score some perfect waves. The potential here is like nowhere else around the whole world. Now, people always ask the same questions over and over about surf trips, surf tours, surf lessons in Costa Rica- so before you guys come down here, I’m going to answer some frequently asked questions we get on a daily basis.

Now a lot of people ask us: “Why Costa Rica for a surf trip?” I personally have traveled around the world like a couple times and this is the best spot I’ve ever found, not to mention the flights down here are really cheap: from Florida you can go one way on jetblue for about 99 bucks, from LAX round trip if you buy your ticket about 2 weeks in advance it’s about 350 to 450 dollars, depending on the season. So flights are pretty cheap. Costa Rica has a very Americanized feel, like I feel completely safe. I use to surf in Mexico all the time and you always had that weird feeling when you go into Mexico. In Costa Rica the whole vibration here is Pura Vida, which means “pure life”. It’s got a very Americanized, safe feeling this is not a third world country, this is the second world country- it’s safe. The healthcare, the hospitals everybody’s chill, the locals are mellow- there’s no bad vibrations. We also have all the distinct conveniences that you’re used to and that you expect as an American- we have beautiful huge grocery store. We got Subway, Quiznos, We had pizza Hut last night, there’s a best Western right here on the beach so we have all these conveniences that us as Americans seek when we’re going to surf trip, this is not a third world country, this is a beautiful spot to come and surf. Basically here is why you should come to Costa Rica: its safe, the flights are cheap, the waves are perfect and uncrowded, the food is delicious, the water is 82 degrees year round, and there’s tons of fun stuff to do.

All right guys, now if you like this video we have literally made a ton more videos on all the information you could ever need to plan to surf to Costa Rica. We literally have everything figured out for you guys. All you need to do send us an email or give us a call. We also have a free e-book that we developed it’s called “20 things you absolutely must know before planning to surf to Costa Rica” Just go ahead and visit the website below, opt-in with your e-mail and we’ll send you the book instantly. We will see you guys in Costa Rica, We’ll pick you up in the airport and we’ll be surfing that afternoon. This is the spot to be- we hope to see you guys down here- Have a good day!

where to learn to surf in florida (south east)?

i plan to stay with my grandparents for spring break and most of the summer and theres nothing really to do at there house since yeah there old. so we go down to the beaches alot or just shopping at like gift stores. And last summer i stayed for a week and learned how to jet skiing and i really want to learn to how to surf. They live in naples florida so is there any good spots around there (not farther then like a hour away) that have surf lessons? or somewhere just to surf?

I’ve never been to the Gulf side over by Naples but the Florida beaches I’ve been to didn’t have big waves at all… horrible for surfing. I’d look into kite-boarding or wakeboarding, I went here a couple times, it was a blast:

http://www.gatorbaitwakeboard.com/

Ask for Marcos, it’s a bit of a drive from Naples but it’s worth it.

A Taste of the Caribbean a Little Closer to Home

Many people enjoy cheap holidays in Fuerteventura year after year. This popular Canary Island is the second largest of the group and the nearest to the African coast. It shares the same geographical latitude as Mexico and Florida giving it a near perfect year round climate.

Although of volcanic origin it is the only one of the Canary Islands that has no high mountains, instead it is blessed with miles of sandy beaches that have drifted gently in the warm Sahara breeze to create over 150 very impressive sand dunes. The seemingly endless sandy beaches are often dotted with palm trees and you’d be hard pushed to find any as beautiful this side of the Caribbean. With just a four hour flight from the UK, it makes the perfect year round family destination.

The interior of the island is perhaps the only part that hints at its volcanic start in life, with a dry, rocky and sometimes baron landscape dotted with cute little white washed villages.

The four main resorts you’ll visit on Fuerteventura holidays are Corralejo, Jandina, Costa Caleta and Costa Calma. Corralejo to the north of the island is perhaps the busiest resort, yet never loses its magnetic family charm. Costa Caleta, formerly known as Caleta de Fuste, has a wonderful safe horseshoe shaped bay, making it ideal for smaller children. Costa Calma and Jandina are at the southern end of the island and boast probably the best beaches to be found in the Canary Islands.

Holidays in Fuerteventura portray a laid back outlook on life yet there is plenty of energy in this island should you be tempted by some of the many excursions. On land why not take a jeep safari through the desert like terrain or even try a camel trek.

Many of the activities on Fuerteventura holidays are water based though and at nearly every resort you’ll get the chance to try your hand. Whatever you want to do there are usually lessons available and sessions for every level and capability. Fuerteventura is extremely popular with water sports enthusiasts and every July the P.W.A. (Professional Windsurfers Association) world windsurfing speed and slalom event is held in the south of the island at Sotavento. Attracting surfers from all over the world, it is worth visiting the area just to see the exciting surfing.

Sailing and fishing are also extremely popular on Fuerteventura holidays with catamaran rides over to Lanzarote, pirate ships that sail around the coast or ferry rides over to the tiny island of Los Lobos.

Divers are drawn to the warm clear waters around Fuerteventura, and the island has many PADI Dive centres around its coast. Among the stunning volcanic rock formations below the surface, you can expect to see such beauties as Angelshark, Parrot fish, Moray Eels, Barracuda and maybe even Octopus on a good day.

If you’re looking for a relaxing family holiday in beautiful surroundings, with just as much energy as you want to include then look for cheap holidays to Fuerteventura, and enjoy the beautiful scenery and facilities that this Canary Island has to offer.

The Very Best of the Beach Boys: Sounds of Summer CD lives up to the first half of its title, though not the second.

The Beach Boys recorded tons of albums for Capitol long before The Beatles appeared on the scene and forced everyone in rock to either improve their game or get out.

Those albums are full of songs about surfing, cars and girls. They’re so simple and so heartfelt they work on a generation. I for one didn’t care much for cars. I was nowhere near the ocean so I’ve never (yet) gone surfing (but I did spend all my summers at the local swimming club, so that’s as close as I could come). But “girls” part of the equation made the songs universal.

They could have filled a CD with those old, nearly lost songs, but kept to the “best” theme. In later years, consciously competing with The Beatles (while others such as The Ventures and Jan and Dean stopped making records), their recordings became much more ambitious, though still elegant in ways that spoke to the teenage heart.

This CD contains the obvious summer songs such as Surfin’ Safari, Surfin’ USA and Surfer Girl. Many of the songs could just as easily take place during the school year (Little Deuce Coupe), but speak to summer and Fun, Fun, Fun…

It’s easy to forget now, but Pet Sounds came out right after Sargent Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and stole a lot of thunder. The Beatles came out with the first “artistic breakthrough” album, and yet The Beach Boys followed right on their footsteps. (And Paul McCartney even now describes himself as England’s Number One Beach Boys fan.)

While The Beatles got into metaphysics and heavy stuff like that, Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys kept their artistic ambition tuned to the concerns of average teenagers, with songs such as “Wouldn’t It Be Nice?” “Don’t Talk (Put Your Head on My Shoulder),” and Caroline.

Yet it’s hard to imagine anyone not being able to listen to I Get Around, Dance, Dance, Dance and Good Vibrations and not simply having fun. Yes, I realize there are people who are put off by the whole sound, because they’re think they’re either more sophisticated or down to earth or something. Their loss.

And in this day and age of celebrating girls who either look like ugly boys or like they’re trying to be international super models, it’s hard to conceive of boys glorifying the look of California Girls as they were back then… wearing bikinis, but not showing their ass cracks or butt cheeks.

Heck, when I was in high school I was anything but a school spirit advocate — yet I love to sing along with Be True to Your School. Lots of my old classmates would laugh at that.

This is not the definitive Beach Boys collection. There are a few gaps. Why was Girls on the Beach excluded but Do It Again included? Where’s Don’t Hurt My Little Sister? Then I Kissed Her? Even Surf’s Up?

Make sure you are better able to survive catastrophes than the crew and passengers of The Titanic. Get emergency preparedness kits now. Disabled and senior citizens need to check out an emergency medical alert system.

what are some great songs in the key of C major?

its for my ukulele i got it two weeks ago & im getting pretty good just i like playing in the key of C because its easy and im still a beginner & im having trouble with different strumming techniques, it would make it easier if i didnt have to look for the chords too. I mastered “Surfing USA” and “Five Years Time” so i’m looking for songs not too complex that would be fun

thanks!

Streeterville is an affluent, lakeside Chicago neighborhood with a mix of residential real estate. On the same block you’ll find vintage flats, multimillion-dollar homes, affordable apartments, and luxury high-rises. Lakefront condos are prime property in Streeterville, offering spectacular views, proximity to downtown and, of course, access to Chicago’s magnificent Lake Michigan coastline.

There are dozens of excellent residential condominiums in Streeterville, but nothing compares to those that are right on the water’s edge. If you’re looking for true lakefront living in the Streeterville neighborhood, Lake Shore Drive is going to be your home sweet home.

600 N. Lake Shore Drive

This new construction luxury condo consists of two glass-clad towers that overlook Navy Pier and Ohio Street Beach. The units are contemporary and well-appointed, with no more than six residences on each floor for maximum exterior exposure and square footage. Condos at 600 N. Lake Shore range from 1,000 sq. ft. to 2,500+ sq. ft. with 7′ tall windows and 9′4″ ceiling heights.

The dual-building project was completed by Belgravia Group & Sandz Development Company in 2008. It is located next to the W Hotel on the corner of Ohio Street and Inner Lake Shore Drive. The North Tower stands 40 stories tall and the South Tower extends another six stories up. The floor plans offer one- to three-bedroom layouts with a variety of fine finishes, including oak hardwood floors, marble tile foyers, granite counters, stainless steel GE Profile appliances and insulated windows.

According to the condo’s official web site, there are currently 439 residents inhabiting this top-of-the-line lakefront condo in Streeterville. Residents enjoy on-site perks, such as indoor heated parking, 24-hour doorman, exercise facilities, extra storage, business center, dry cleaners, bike room and rooftop sun deck. And don’t forget, sand and surf are right across the street from 600 N. Lake Shore Drive!

990 N. Lake Shore Drive

Located where Lake Shore Drive curves around the shoreline to meet the southern tip of Oak Street Beach, this lakefront Chicago condo boasts vast panoramic views of Lake Michigan and a prestigious Streeterville setting. 990 N. Lake Shore Drive is a 34-story high-rise with floor-to-ceiling windows, a rooftop swimming pool, exercise center, and a doorperson at your service around the clock.

Since its construction in 1973, many of the units at 990 N. Lake Shore Drive have been renovated and modernized. The condos reflect individual owners’ styles and offer a wide variety of handsomely decorated homes. A number of the residences have been fully updated with all-new finishes as well as remodeled kitchens and baths. The larger floor plans have approximately 2,000 square feet of living space with three bedrooms, three baths, and formal dining rooms.

Barancik Conte and Associates are the architects behind the design of 990 N. Lake Shore Drive, which combines a white concrete façade with long curtain-walls of black-tinted glass. Private balconies and terraces are reserved for a select group of “A” tier units, but all residents are welcome to enjoy the open-air sundeck and pool on top of the building.

840 N. Lake Shore Drive

Famous architect Lucien Lagrange said his inspiration for 840 N. Lake Shore was the elegance of the Drive’s older buildings. The condominium is influenced by traditional French style with a specialty zinc-clad mansard roof and ornate 19th Century detailing. Lagrange masterfully blends vintage charm with contemporary architecture to create a one-of-a-kind residence fit for Chicago’s most discerning home buyers.

Completed in 2004, this 26-story luxury lakefront condo is one of Streeterville’s most desirable places to live. It has 73 units that range in size from 2,100 sq. ft. to 8,700 sq. ft. (for the penthouse). The condos feature open layouts with minimum 9′ ceilings, plentiful closets, high-end appointments and exquisite interior finishes. A cylindrical column of bay windows on the southeast corner of the building makes for incredible multi-directional vistas of Lake Michigan and beyond.

Other design elements of 840 N. Lake Shore Drive are the recessed balconies, oversized windows, and exterior stonework. Construction was done by LR Development Company, who had the condo ready for occupation in April of ‘04. The building offers garage parking, exercise facilities, a posh lobby, and doorman. In addition to being across the street from Lake Michigan’s shoreline, there is a small park, softball field and tennis courts next door to 840 N. Lake Shore Drive. Northwestern University’s Medical School campus is a block away, as is the Museum of Contemporary Art.

James Belmont has been writing about lakefront condos in Streeterville, and Chicago Condos for over five years and also writes about many other Chicago Real Estate related topics.

OK….I was born and raised in California…..The first thing I ever rode was a surfboard…….The Best!!!!!! I was surfing up until 4 years ago….slight medical problem has slowed me down a bit….but I have all intentions of getting back out there….I still have my first few boards…..a couple long boards……(:-) yep! A sweet Dewey Weber…..ah!

First of all…you surf all year long…..buy a good, a really good wet suit. Get one for summer with short sleeves. Don’t scrimp on this. Get your booties. You will wear your wet suits all the time especially in the bay area…….some great surf down the coast on PCH……..

Start slow in soupy water…low waves. They will teach you that….

I am going to give you some links for classes in the Bay Area…and I wish you the best……..There is nothing better in the world, you really get your center out there. People that don’t surf don’t understand….but it IS a religion, the only religion!……
