PARENTS! What would you do if your teen was doing this?

Well I know a 17 yr old guy and he spends like 12-14 hrs a day online…mostly in a chat room but also youtube and myspace or just Surfing. Anyway, all of his “frinds” came from this chat room where they are all ppl he has never met and probably never will. He has no real life friends and has never had a real gf…only internet gf’s? He even goes to school online becasue he can’t handle a reg. school. He wants to be a rockstar someday and plays the guitar but is so lazy he sometimes doesn’t even want to go to lessons. He isn’t doing well in school becasue he thinks he will be a musician and won’t need school anyway. He has many emotional problems but refuses meds and no longer feels therapy is useful so doesn’t go. What would you do? He stays up until 4-5 am online and is lazy most of the day. What are your thoughts on this and does he have much of a future with this behavior? Thanks

Either he goes to school or he gets a job. No exceptions.

Surf Lessons that Add Excitement to Your Life

Hawaii with its 8 main islands is known for being the best place for riding the waves. People from all over the world come here to enjoy and test their skills in the surf competitions. Some also take surf lessons just to have fun. The Hawaiian Islands have the most ideal surf conditions with the killer waves. People from different parts of the world come to this place for enjoying the fabulous surfing beaches. There are many shops and organizations that offer surf lessons with the help of knowledgeable instructors.

The lessons are categorized as per the age and skill. These lessons can be taken by a varied group of people from kids of six years to the experienced surfers. However, the beginners should have knowledge in swimming for enrolling into these training sessions. Lessons start with explaining the basic things of surfing like how to know the changes in wind direction, put on the feet straps, hold the surf board, and so on. Then the beginners are asked to lie on their boards in the sand and practice “pop up”. Popping up is the term generally used when a person catches the wave and goes from the paddling position (lying on top of board), to a standing, upright position. For the first few days, the learners are made to practice on the small, close waves. The primary fun of surfing lies in looking for small breaking waves that a person can walk out to. As long as a person abides by the safety instructions nothing goes wrong for him during the lessons.

Are you interested to take surf lessons in the Hawaii beach? Well your looking is over. The best lessons for riding the waves can be found at www.surfschoolshi.com, who are located at north (during winter) and south shores (during summer) of Hawaii including Lanai, Maui, Molokai, Kailua, Big Island, Waikiki, Kauai, Oahu East and Oahu West Islands, and so on. Their lessons are operated by fully certified ocean safety lifeguards. They also arrange special programs for kids after school hours. Their energetic and qualified staffs make the surfing lessons fun. Their charges are also quite affordable, so you don’t have to shell out a lot of money. Don’t hesitate to bring fun and excitement in your life. Enroll yourself today.

Learning to Surf – to do list & top preparations

1. Find a surf spot with a beginner friendly beach preferably with warm water and without crowds. A sand bottom beach break with long gentle rolling white water is perfect for a first timer. Costa Rica is an ideal spot for learning to surf. Another good idea would be to book a trip at a surf camp where you can get specialized progressive lessons, daily guidance and a emersion environment.

2. Take at least 1-2 lesson before you jump in to it. Make sure to find a qualified surf instructor who has at least 8-10 years Surfing experience and at least 2 years teaching experience. Surfing can be dangerous and without basic board management, crowd awareness and ocean knowledge instruction a fun day at the beach can turn in to trip to the hospital or worse.

3. Pick a proper surf board to learn on. Usually when you start out its on a bigger board or long board 8-10ft and as you improve you can move down in size.

4. Start working on dropping any extra unnecessary pounds if you need to. The lighter and fitter you show up the easier it will be for you as well as your instructor.

5. A simple fitness regimen 3-4 weeks prior will do wonders for your stamina. Push ups, pull ups, crunches, and lying back extensions are great, if you work with weights utilize circuit training. work more medium to light weights with high repetitions progressively decreasing rest time between sets, also give some attention to your posterior deltoids.

6. Upper body cardio is king. The hardest part about learning to surf is the demanding paddling. Any type of cardio is good, but you should do some upper body cardio such as paddling, Rows, boxing aerobics, Swimming laps etc.

7. Get a balance board. Indo boards are great for practicing weight distribution and relaxed balancing. They also will help get your legs toned and in shape. They come with dvd’s to show you how. You can do 10-15 minutes a day in your living room on the carpet in front of the TV easily. You should be able to find one at any board sport or sporting good store.

8. Make sure you can hold your breath for at least 20 seconds. When you start you will be in shallow water(about 4-6 feet deep), but a wipe out can still put you under for a few seconds and the more breath you have the more relaxed you’ll be.

9. Flexibility: If you do yoga that’s great or just a simple 10 min daily stretching regimen focusing on limbering your legs, chest, arms, and back

10. Educate your self. Go google crazy. There is tons of info online about surfing tips, ocean knowledge, surf reports, surf equipment. .
Pura Vida & Aloha

Ballroom dancing has bounced back because of the exposure this great sport has received through the media and the various dance shows broadcasted on numerous channels. A sort of craze has developed, especially amongst the youth and the teenagers. If you are also willing to learn ballroom dance, then you have to keep the following things in mind before you get on the floor.

First of all choose your dance form. If you are passionate about dancing and if it is your dream to become a dancer, well then watch its various forms and pick the favorite one, the one which you would love to perform. Then you can surf through the internet or the local newspapers, radio or television or just stroll down the city to find out a good dance class or a dance teacher for yourself.

Once you have done that you can start to learn ballroom dance basics and put your heart and soul into it. Diverse universities across America offer facilities for ballroom dancing. It is rightly said that “practice makes man perfect”. To emerge into a good dancer, a lot of practice is very essential. You should not become conscious of the crowd while dancing and have no hesitation of any kind. Moreover, you should go online and find out more about the dance form you have selected and even watch dance acts or performances of others.

It could be a television show or a competition or simply a dance party. You get to pick up various techniques and styles and even learn to create and enhance your own techniques. The habit of warming up before any dance is really a good thing to do. It helps you come into the mode and the mood of the dance performance. You muscles have to be stretched and loosened up. You should always go for a five to six minute warm up session before the practice or the performance begins.

When the learning session begins, you have to get involved but at the same time be careful. Foot stamping, tangling while turning and bumping into each other is a common thing to happen while you are engaged in the activity.

Footwork is the most important technique in any ballroom dancing form. It is always wise to keep you feet together while learning than to keep those apart, so as to learn to balance yourself. While managing your kick steps you have to take care that your toes point downwards and not upwards. Another important component when you’re out to learn ballroom dance is catching the beat. Once, you learn to do that, you have come half way for sure. Balancing also includes a bit of grounding work to be done. Grounding is to place your feet on the floor and avoid slipping.

To manage this properly, you have to push yourself to the ground through the centre of you feet. Grounding would also enhance your techniques and make your footwork look clean and clear. In case you are willing to go beyond the basics and want to learn ballroom dance forms for performances at social events, college functions, parties etc. then you can go for more than one forms of this dance.

If you wish to learn an easy form, then tango is the form you should opt for. You can join a class or learn it online, but one thing is rest assured that once you start to learn ballroom dance, you will definitely want more and more of it.

Guitar Lesson Videos: Criteria you MUST look for before purchasing

Learning how to play the guitar is definitely becoming a craze these days not only with the kids but also with many adults of the adults looking to finally dust off that ol’ guitar and learn something. But many people avoid learning how to play the guitar thinking that it’s a quite difficult task.

Well this might be true but to a very small extent. There are various ways you can learn how to play the guitar. You can take private lessons or get an instructional book of some sort or the best way I recommend is to get the guitar lesson videos.

Taking a private instructor would be nice but you have to set a particular time and then again you might be one among 6 or 7 people being taught at the same time and of course you have to spend 25-35 dollars on average per lesson, which may amount to hundreds of dollars a month for private lessons.

The best way to learn how to play the guitar is the guitar lesson videos. These guitar lessons have become very popular as they are quite accessible and you can learn to play the guitar at your own home at your very own pace. There are different types of guitar lesson videos. There are the ones for beginners which start from the basics like how to choose a guitar, how to hold it, the basic cords and scales and what each string does or even how to start playing songs.

For Intermediate players there are videos on how to progress with more complicated techniques and arrangements. For advanced players, the sky is the limit on where you can take your playing so make sure you choose the right video for yourself. Quality video guitar lessons generally provide detailed step by step instructions to smoothly guide you through exercise.

When choosing a guitar lesson video make sure you are able to view clearly the way the instrument is being played. With the different camera angles. Make sure there are easy to follow instructions and a clear picture of the finger placements.

Many guitar lesson videos are available online. You can surf the internet and find the perfect online guitar lesson for you. When you’re searching for an online site you can use the help of a friend who knows to play the guitar to check out the site before you start using it.

These videos are a very effective way of learning how to play the guitar in the comfort of your own home. All you have to do is first watch the video for 20 min then try and play along with the video once you get it then you practice. Before the next lesson makes sure you are comfortable with the first lesson, if not, watch the video of the first lesson again. Make sure you follow the instructions given carefully and don’t skip steps.

The right guitar lesson is extremely effective in making you a confident skilled guitarist. You can definitely have some great fun and try out new stuff of your own once you get the hang of it. Just make sure you practice and get it right. Its nice having someone watch your fingers while you play but is definitely better that you do it alone.

Surfing question? first time?

Hi, getting a beginners surfboard today, I’m 5′5 got about an 8 foot longboard

I’ll be taking lessons soon but I’m going to a very, very mild beach (Dohini, cal) where lots of beginners surf.

My friend went over some basics with me, and I watched a lot of respectable videos on youtube and stuff.

I have a few questions though, like what do I do if I fall off? as in I dont want the huge thing to hit my head or something

What should I do to not get in other surfers ways? I don’t wana be some kook totally outa whack out there

If there’s a rogue breaking wave how should I get through it?

Pls answer these questions, any other tips would be great too

Thanks.

Okay, it sounds like you have a plan, and some good common sense. let me suggest two alternatives:

1) Don’t go surfing until you have started the lessons

                            or
2) Don’t go surfing unless you go with a pal who surfs, who can act as a guide/coach

We can tell you all sorts of stuff on-line, but I really can’t help you learn how to not get knocked on the head by your board while I’m out here in cyberspace. For instance, if you fall off your board (which believe me, is about 100% likely) you should be attached to it by your leash. Get back up on it! On-line ‘tips’ and watching videos just doesn’t substitute or time in the water.

If you aren’t already very a confident and competent ocean swimmer, you better tackle that problem before you even think about surfing.

No matter what you try to do, you WILL look like some kind of kook. Everybody has to start someplace, we all did, so don’t be self conscious. It just makes better sense to go out with an instructor or pal to coach you, and help keep you out of the way of more experienced surfers.

I have been surfing since 1966,, and had a lifetime of fun. I know you will too. You have a great attitude! If I live in SoCal, I’d come with you. Good luck.

Quirky Interiors

At last… breathe a sigh of relief …home interiors are starting to move away from the bland and homogeneous minimalism that has dominated the interiors magazines for years. Instead we are seeing a move towards a more individualistic approach that uses bespoke designs, hand-crafted items and best of all demonstrates a sense of humour. I am currently redecorating my living room and I plan to take full advantage of all this vibrancy by using reclaimed materials and furniture, quirky
wall decals
and wall murals and some wonderfully imaginative accessories. Firstly, the wall decor needs to be sorted out. I still love the light airy feel that was such a big part of the minimalist look so I have opted for off-white walls as a backdrop for everything else. To add some much needed character, I have sourced some wonderful
wall stickers
online. I’ve fallen for a pink stag’s head which will make a fantastic feature above the fireplace. I simply can’t resist an amazing wallpaper mural called Junglaland by Wall & Deco which features a huge pink orchid stretching across the wall with a damask background. I am going to put this on the wall opposite the fireplace. Secondly, the window treatments. This is one of the more difficult areas to get right but I was lucky enough to visit France this summer and find some amazing curtains in a shop called Madura. They have a morrocan design that is cut out of the fabric and can be used as panels on the wall as well as in front of the window. The sofa has been my one big luxury as I have been craving a bright-coloured patchwork pattern for ages and managed to find a company that re-upholster second-hand sofas in beautiful patchwork fabrics. My favourite accessories are some shelves that are disguised as books called SelfShelf. The book title is Ceci n’est pas un livre (‘this is not a book’) so this is postmodernism in action! I still need to source lighting but with all the amazing choices out there I’m having a whale of a time! The huge array of wall decals,
wallpaper murals
, furniture and unusual accessories available online is mind boggling but my advice is be daring, be bold and get surfing!

Be Prepared For Your Kite Surfing Lessons

If you’re planning kite surfing lessons this summer and want to excel in it, then you need some solid tips to help you get started. Kite surfing can be a really cool experience but it’s important that you have the fundamentals if you want to start out on the right foot.

The kite used in kite surfing is similar to a regular kite except bigger. If you want to get a feel of how to handle a kite before you take those kite surfing lessons, get ahead of the game and try buying a normal hand held kite and learn how to fly it. This experience will obviously not be the same as actually being on a kite board but it will give you an understanding of the basics of how it works.

I’d recommend a good beginners book if you have never flown a hand held kite before because most have diagrams and step by step instructions. Start out by learning how to launch the kite and then spend a couple of hours learning how to control the kite and keep it floating. This will increase your understanding of how the wind speed, strength and direction affect flying the kite and will help you prepare for your kite surfing lessons.

If you can spend a couple of days beforehand to go boardsurfing or windsurfing, it will help you get used to the kite board faster. I know it’s not quite as cool as kiteboarding but patience my friend and the rewards will be yours!

You’ve booked those kitesurfing lessons or maybe even decided to go on a kitesurfing camp and with enthusiasm and real effort you will become a great kite surfer but experience is the only way you will be able to achieve this awesome goal to join the ranks of the seriously cool people who enjoy this heart thumpingly extreme sport.

A good guide with pictures and diagrams is the best way to learn the basics initially as this will give you an advantage to understanding techniques, skills, safety, equipment and your environment when you start your kite surfing lessons.

Safety is a big issue when you are kite surfing. Be ahead of the crowd and read about etiquette on the water and how to surf to prevent accidents. Learn what to do in case of an accident and how to read the water and wind conditions. This will allow you more time to practice on the water instead of reading in the class room.

There are plenty of kiteboarding video downloads and start up books available which can really help prepare for your kite surfing lessons. Learning some kitesurfing lingo is invaluable and may keep you from making mistakes…after all, I am sure that you will want to be one of the in crowd in this ultra cool sport and understand what is being said and discussed.

These few tips will help you become the perfect kite surfer from the start. You won’t be a professional but you’ll be able to get started riding those waves faster than the average person.

Start off the right way and slash your learning curve by at least 2 months by taking in some advance reading in preparation for your kite surfing lessons.

kite-surfing lessons
off to a great start, have a look at this
Kitesurfing Guide
. Guaranteed to get you out on the waves sooner!

Is a week enough time to learn the basics of surfing?

I am going to hawaii for 7 days for spring break and my birthday. I plan to take surfing lessons while I am there because I really really want to learn, but my home is like 4 hours from the beach so yeah my time is pretty much limited. Is a week of learning to surf enough time to get the basics down? I know I won’t be good or anything within that time…but I want to give it a shot. (When I go off to college in august I will be closer to the coast)

If by basics you mean paddling and maybe being able to catch white water and stand up then the answer is yes. Surfing has got to be one of the hardest things in the world to get good at. But if you’re taking lessons and have a solid week to spend you will definitely be on the road and having fun.

Downloading Music Online

There are several ways to download music online. One way is the peer-to-peer download connection. Peer-to-peer download sites are illegal, and many have been shut down. Aside from the ethical and moral side of stealing music via a peer-to-peer site, there’s the risk of downloading computer viruses. The viruses you could download along with your favorite music could potentially be debilitating to your computer.

Another way to download music is via the artist’s website. Many artists now put MP3s on their website for your convenience. Usually these downloads are offered at a minimal fee of about $0.99. The average CD costs around $15 retail and holds 13 to 15 songs. When you take this into consideration, the average price per song is at or around $0.99.

If you download your favorite songs from the artist’s website or another authorized website, you’re getting only the songs you want at the same price. You save money on the songs you want. The company still makes money on the songs you get. It is a win-win situation.

One very popular way to listen to your favorite music while surfing the Web is to listen to a streaming online radio station. This is also a great way to download your favorite songs. Many online streaming radio stations offer the songs they play as individual downloads. Prices range from just a few cents to over a dollar. This is also a very good way for independent artists to become known.

The MP3 player has become more than a neat gadget; it’s now a fashion accessory. The ability match your MP3 player to your clothing and wear ear buds with rhinestones or diamonds makes the ability to download music a necessity. Cellular phones with MP3 capabilities are also sneaking to the forefront. Several cordless phones now come with the ability to play MP3s and deliver the music to your cordless headset. Fortunately you can legitimately download the music you want and still save money.

Many websites now offer the ability to download your favorite music at minimal cost. Some sites charge a per-download fee, while others charge a small monthly fee for a number of downloads per month. Becoming a member of these sites is very simple. An easy-to-fill-out application ensures that you receive the tunes you want for the price that’s right for your budget. Most sites require your credit or debit card information to purchase songs. If you choose the individual package, your songs will be billed to your card as they are purchased. If you choose a monthly download package, you will be billed at the same time every month. This makes it very convenient to budget your music expenses.

In 2005, Napster UK conducted a poll asking its members if they still buy CDs. An amazing 750,000 said they did not. Buying CDs is becoming a thing of the past. The quicker music artists and record labels realize this, the sooner they will begin making more money again. Imagine being able to go to your favorite band’s website and buy only the tracks you want at a decent price. Basically, people are tired of having to buy an entire CD for the one or two songs they hear on the radio. Most people make the decision to purchase a CD based on the latest song on their radio.

I also tried Power DVD to play the CD it still did the same thing Windows Media Player did.
make it a free 1 also plz
my specs are:
1.0GHz Duron
1GB RAM
Win98

If the digital is breaking up in WMP, try using what came with your sound card, or even video card. In terms of CD playback apps.

A lot of CD-ROMs, have a 2-pin Digital Out.

The only time i’ve experienced this ‘clipping’ with the digital playback option set was with a SCSI CD-Rom drive.

I think the playback interruptions, while surfing the net, is an issue in its own and should be looked into. That could mean the Hard drive is slowing down the flow of data in some way. Are your Hard Drives and CD-Rom drives on the same IDE ribbon cable?

INTRODUCTION TO ELECTRONIC RETAILING

INTRODUCTION TO ELECTRONIC RETAILING

By

Miss. P. PIRAKATHEESWARI, Lecturer in Commerce,

Sri Sarada College for Women (Autonomous), Salem – 16.

Introduction

The e-retailing(less frequently; e-Retailing, e-Tailing, etc.) is the concept of selling of retail goods using electronic media, in particular, the internet. The vocabulary “electronic retailing,” that used in internet discussions as early as 1995, the term seems an almost in evitable addition to e-mail, e-business and e-commerce, etc. e-retailing is synonymous with business- to- consumer (B2C) transaction model of e-commerce. Although e-retailing is an independent business model with certain specific constituents like; trust model, electronic transaction process, etc, but in reality it is a subset of e- commerce by nature.

E-Retailing stores sell online promotion only for goods that can be sold easily online, e.g., Amazon did for Books & CDs, etc. The online retailing require lots of displays and specification of products to make the viewers have a personal feel of the product and its quality as he gets while physically present in a shop.

E-Retailing refers to retailing over the internet. Thus an e-Retailing is a B2C (Business to customer) business model that executes a transaction between businessman and the final consumer. E-Retailers can be pure play businesses like amazon.com or businesses that have evolved from a legacy business such as tesco.com. The e-retailing is a subset of e-commerce. Thus, e-commerce is the master domain defining the e-retailing operation.

Essentials of E-Retailing

Electronic retailing or e-tailing, as it is generally being called now, is the direct sale of products, information and service through virtual stores on the web, usually designed around an electronic catalogue format and auction sites. There are thousands of storefronts or e-commerce sites on the Internet that are extensions of existing retailers or start-ups. Penetration of computers and proliferation of the Internet has given rise to many new forms of businesses, such as business process outsourcing, call centre based customer relationship management, medical transcription, remotely managed educational and medical services and of course, electronic retailing.

There are certain essential ingredients for an electronic retailing business to be successful. One must consider these components well in advance before setting up an electronic storefront. These essential components are:

Attractive business-to-consumer (B2C) e-commerce portal

Right revenue model

Penetration of the Internet

E-Catalog – It is a database of products with prices and available stock.

Shopping Cart – The customers select their goodies and fill shopping cart. Finally, as in a real store, at the time of checkout, the system calculates the price to be paid for the products.

A payment gateway – Customer makes payments through his/her credit card or e-cash. The payment mechanism must be fully secure.

Support Services in E-Retailing

The electronic retail business requires support services, as a prerequisite for successful operations. These services are required to support the business, online or offline, throughout the complete transaction-processing phases. The following are the essential support services:

Communication backbone

Payment mechanism

Order fulfillment

Logistics

Advantages of E-Retailing

E-Retailing, either as an extension of the existing retail/distribution business or an altogether new start-up, has many advantages. Traditional brick-store retailers are placing more emphasis on their electronic channels and evolving into multi-channel retailers to increase their reach and support their retail channels. The new start-ups in e-retailing can be launched from a small room with one PC attached with the outside world through the Internet.

The electronic channel gives the existing brick-store retailers an opportunity to reach new markets.

For the existing retailers, it is an extension to leverage their skills and grow revenues and profits without creating an altogether new business.

E-Retailing overcomes some limitations of the traditional formats, for instance the customers can shop from the comfort of their homes.

The e-commerce software that also traces the customers’ activities on the Net enables e-retailers to gain valuable insights into their customers shopping behaviour.

The e-retail channels transcend all barriers of time and space. The retailers’ server must be on 24*7. An order can come from any customer living any place at any time of the day.

E-Commerce channels are definitely efficient and retailers do not have to pay a heavy price for brick-n-mortar shops in costly shopping malls.

Shortcomings of e-retailing

The online retailing {e-retailing} process is not an ultimate in the field of retailing methods; it also suffers various drawbacks that are the qualifications of traditional marketing. Some of the drawbacks need mention.

It has no theatrical ambience which can be the customer.

It lacks an emotional shopping experience that the customer can get in a personal shopping store.

It being container of intangible merchandise (i.e., virtual display of merchandise) does not provide sensory support to the customer, these the customer cannot hold, small, feel, or try the product.

On line customers are reluctant to part with their credit card details on net, fearing they may be misused. It arises security issues. The customers are not yet convinced about the foolproof status of this method, especially in Indian environment.

It provides, to a large extent, impersonal services which the Indian customers are not exposed to; they are rather used to the tangible personalized services which’s they miss in online retailing services.

It is lacking in family shopping experience which the Indian customers enjoy at the weekends, and particularly during festive seasons and marriage marketing.

The advantages of e –Retailing outweighs its draws, thus it is showing a positive growth rate across the boundary.

Success factors for e-retailing

The success of e-retailing depends on multiple factors that are required to be taken into consideration as prima-facie, missing even a single small consideration is quite liable to create a greater negative impact on entire business, since the customers and business both are far from each-other. The customer is aloof from reality of the business regarding with whom he is going to enter into a business relation; whether the relation will go for a short-term or for over a long-term, no matter.

The e-Retailing business pattern is sophisticated as well as quite delicate; rather it may be defined more correctly as “fragile”. Thus, every consideration requires equal importance in its own status.

Following are some of the factors to be taken care of, however it is neither exhaustive nor the ultimate, since it may change according to the nature of business too. At the same time the business ambience, magnitude and type of competition, changing need of consumer and many more external factors may influence it to a larger extent. Thus, the early recognition of necessary current requirements and its implementation along with time is always a wise proposition.

The important factors are:

Strong Branding

Unique Merchandising

Value Addition

Competitive Pricing

Better CRM

Better Distribution Efficiency

Soothing Website Design

Transparency in Services.

As e-retailer is alone in the e-Retailing market rather he is also surrounded with a number of competitors, thus to ensure sale he has to think competitive pricing so that he can attract his customer. The competitive pricing finds scope from potential decrease in charges and expenditures that he had to bear while in brick-and-mortar mode of marketing. It is a matter of careful exercise to enclose a real competitive price to its products or services.

The first abroad of the customer is website. The aesthetic and easy handling facilities are two important terms in this relation. The aesthetic provides initial attraction along with keeping the visitor long held with the site. The maneuvering easiness keeps the visitor surfing it for long.

The aesthetics of the website must provide soothing look and feel and clarity of objects or scripts to the visitor along with sufficient ergonomic considerations, so that the visitor does not feel tired at the earliest. The careful placement of buttons and links provides ease in handling it.

Finally, the transparency of services creates faith on the visitor of the site as well as on the customer of the business. Transparency of services is identified with the “truth”.

Challenges of E-Retailing

1. Unproven Business Models

In the formative years of dot-com era, most of the businesses on the Net were experiments in new areas and did not provide enduring sources of profit. This was the primary reason behind closing down of 90 per cent of the purely e-commerce companies in the beginning of this century. Today, dot-com businesses have matured a little. Still some of the businesses are at experimental level and do not guarantee regular revenue.

2. Requirement to Change Business Process

The process of procurement, storage and logistics in e-businesses is different from that in traditional brick-store businesses. The e-retail organization has to carefully redesign and integrate various processes to suit the new e-business. Traditional sections of departments and management hierarchy may pose hindrances and bottlenecks in the process of order processing and shipments, for example, the traditional business may require the goods to be present at the warehouse and inspected before being shipped to the customer, but in electronic retailing, shipping of goods from one place to another to a customer would not be possible. The retailer may appoint a local supplier at the city where the customer resides and instruct the supplier to deliver the goods. This would require by passing certain business rules and a lot of faith on the local supplier. It would require business confidence that the supplier would follow the instructions and deliver the same product in good quantity and perfect quality. Merchandise planning and demand analysis is also difficult in e-retailing, as compared to traditional retail businesses.

3. Channel Conflicts

Companies selling through the Internet as well as through brick stores may find their interest conflicting at many places. In electronic storefront orders, the goods directly reach the end-consumer and so the distributors and sellers may feel the threat to their existence. Most of the time, it is seen that retailers tend to reduce price over the Net. The sale at the brick store may store may drop because the retailer may tend to sell more through the Internet as a result of reduction of prices.

4. Legal Issues

Proper laws have not yet evolved for Internet based transactions. Validity of e-mails, digital signatures and application of copyright laws is being checked by various government authorities. E-mail and digital signatures are now being recognized as valid for any legal purpose. Value Added Tax (VAT) is yet another area that creates problems. Taxes on goods and services are still an issue. Since the taxes are levied and shared by multiple government agencies at local, state or federal level, there are no clear rules to guide retailers on that. In e-retailing, the place of billing, the place of dispatch of goods and the place of delivery all differ. If these three places fall in different jurisdictions of governments, levy and submission of taxes would be a problem.

5. Security and Privacy

Security is one of the major challenges in the digital world. Despite a lot of security arrangements, such as passwords and firewalls, we come across the news of website hacking and data pilferages. The Internet being on public domain is more susceptible to unauthorized peeping. People are wary of divulging information regarding their credit cards and personal details on the Net because they can be misused. Cyber criminals have exploited the Internet weaknesses and have broken into computer systems, retrieving passwords and banking information. Security of payment gateway is a major concern, which has to be taken care of by the retailer by putting up proper security layers.

Conclusion

Finally, to conclude that e-retailing isn’t just about building a pretty website. An established management consulting firm will bring in the requisite skills to evaluate business plan, check out revenue models, help identify alliances and integrate supply chain processes with e-commerce initiatives.

As per the projection by internet and online association of India (IOAL), online shopping will increase to Rs.2300 crore by 2007. Today, around 38.5 million Indians use internet and the figures are likely to reach at 100 million by 2007-2008. Through online sales, some retail majors want to reach small towns where they do not have the outlets, when most are planning to go e-retailing, some are of the conventional view that it is essential to have look, and experience while shopping garment e- retailers should follow the above-mentioned strategies.

The most and important concentration is focused on back- end system. Customers keep coming back only if earlier shopping experiences have been pleasant and successful. Quit gloating over the 70% success rate of on-line purchases. In this intricate business world, the e-retailing will become tremendous business strategic concept, and it may be very helpful and most profitable method of business process in coming decade to the textile and garment industries.

because they don’t actually have the videos on their website, they just give you links to the website that take you to the website with the videos on it. Most of which are foreign websites (Japanese, Chinese, etc.) therefor the US has absolutely no rule over them and what they can put on their websites.
